This is a fast acting lime that work immediately to raise the pH in soil. This 6 lb. bag will treats up to 1,000 sq. ft.and will remains in the soil for up to 4 weeks. I live in north Georgia and before we plant grass, my husband always works lime into the soil then sews the grass seed. Once the seed is down, he gives it a light dusting with the lim and adds hay on top to stabilize the seed and limit birds feeding on it.

The Pennington fast acting lime is what I have used in the past and have had satisfactory results. This bag is going for smaller area in my yard for now. It's supposed to balance the ph of the soil as lime is alkaline in nature. The lime is not powdery but granular and is specially formulated to act fast. It's easy to use your drop spreader as per recommendation. The bag can be used to treat up to 1000 square feet and the lime is effective for about a month or so. I definitely plan to apply this again during fall.

I use Pennington Fast Acting Lime for my lawn and garden. I have two dogs and It works quickly to help raise your lawn's pH for thicker, healthier growth. For my lawn I apply twice a year for greener grass. In the garden I use it monthly during growing season, my vegetables love the increase in PH and added minerals. Apply to your yard to help promote a thick, healthy lawn Immediately works to raise soil pH.

I used this product this spring in larger quantities to treat my entire yard. It does green up the grass in a couple of days providing the soil is moist or the product gets watered or rained in. I'm using the smaller 6lb bag to spot treat problem areas to further raise the pH to help eliminate weeds (violets) and problematic grass (nimblewill) that love acidic soil (see photo). I don't expect the lime to do the trick by itself. In a month or so I will do a total kill on the nimblewill infested areas and reseed and spot kill the violets. The great thing about this product is its high concentration makes it so much easier on the back to transport and apply. I'm hopeful the pH correction will keep the violets and nimbelwill from coming back because both they are both very hardy and aggressive. Is it just me or does everybody have a broadcast spreader that is not included in the spreader setting instructions so you end up guessing?

The grass seems to like the lime.
This bag is rather small so it will only cover a small area. I have a Scots broadcast spreader and the label said to put the setting on 7. This bag is supposed to cover around 1200 sq. feet but on that setting, I covered maybe 400. The grass seemed to like the treatment but it is hard to really gauge as I keep my lawn fertilized. I suppose that because I fertilize often, the lime is a good thing to help keep the ph balanced.

This Stuff is Amazing!
All these "it's sticky", "what does AST even mean" reviews ... C'mon. It's fast acting lime like fast acting fertilizer -- water soluble, not slow release water insoluble like dolomitic lime. That "it's sticky", well ... that's AST that helps a water soluble application bind/hold/stay to/in the soil, like Bentonite, so it doesn't just flush, wick away. This stuff is amazing! Personally, my soils went from a 5.0 pH to 6.0pH in 8 days after watering in and 1 day of 0.70" rain 2 days later. I added 9 more lbs. to the area and 10 days later -- BOOM, pH was 6.5 (10 test cores at 4" deep). As for the sticky ... yeah, it's slick, not "sticky." I want it that way so it doesn't just wick right through my soils. Just know that and clean accordingly. It's no big deal -- at all.
