Product Overview

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed attracts a wide variety of birds to your backyard feeder. Birds love it, but it attracts less squirrels because safflower seed tastes bitter to them.

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed Ingredients

Ingredients

Safflower Seed and Bird-Kote. Pennington Premium Safflower Seed is enriched with Bird-Kote ingredients-vitamins, minerals and nutrients for a balanced diet and the best in bird health.

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed Compatible Feeders

Compatible Feeders

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed is compatible with hopper, gazebo, tube, and platform feeders.

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed Feeding Tips

Feeding Tips

Hang your feeder approximately five feet above ground and within 10 to 15 feet of natural cover. A nearby birdbath with clean water for birds to bathe in and drink will attract a wider variety of birds than your feeder alone.

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed Feeder Cleaning

Feeder Cleaning Frequency

Clean your seed feeder about once every two weeks. Clean more often during times of heavy use or wet weather.

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed Timing for New Feeders

Timing for Birds to Find New Feeders

If a new feeder is placed near a previous feeding spot familiar to birds, it may be found in minutes or up to two weeks. However, if the location is a new feeding spot, it could take a few weeks before birds find it.

Pennington Premium Safflower Seed Seed Storage

Seed Storage Tips

Reseal package or store seed in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. This will help protect against insect infestation that can naturally occur with any whole grain seed product.

Premium bird seed at a reasonable price....finally! It's been killing me to see my wife spend so much on seed that brings the birds to our yard. This is the reasonable compromise I've been looking for. Birds love it. Am seeing some birds we've never had before which is great. So now happy birds, wife happy and I get to save a few bucks in the process. WInning!

My birds don't like the safflower bird seed. They just ignored it even though they ate all of the other types of bird seed. I have a pesky squirrel who comes daily to check to see if there is any left over bird seed on the ground to eat. I watched out my bedroom window and he sniffed this seed and went right past it. So I'm uncertain what birds would eat the safflower seed. Can't recommend it.

We are on the flightpath of a lot of different species of birds according to Michigan State University, so we enjoy feeding a lot of different birds. The Pennington Premium Safflower bird seed was put in one of our tower feeders and has been attracting a number of different types of birds. The beauty of the safflower seed is that it is practically waste free. We use a lot less of it compared to other seeds and seed mixes. Since the squirrels don't like it, they stay away from it and because it doesn't have the hulls that the sunflower seeds have, it is a lot less messy. We also have sunflower seeds in the wooden covered feeder, which leaves a big mess on the ground from the hulls. Not a problem with the safflower seeds. They work great. I pour the package into a dog food container and use a scoop to load the seeds from there into the tower feeder. I made the scoop from cutting the top off of a half-gallon plastic milk carton. Works great and you can't beat the cost - as in free!

These are very high qualify safflower seeds: whole, very few chips, and virtually no dust. They'd be a great addition to any bird feeder, though we use them for a slightly different purpose: as an eco-friendly cat litter replacement (for use in the Smart Cat Box). For that they work really well, and the quality of these whole seeds definitely exceeds that of cheaper brands. We're certainly fans!

Safflower seeds, now you're talking about turtle doves boy do they take over the feeders. I have 6 feeders you want to have small birds to get any feed you have to use the tall tube feeder. That is because doves will toss the millet on the ground. So a feeder they can't get on is needed, And use each feeder for a different kind of seed or feed. But this bag of safflower seeds will last for 2 or 3 hours less if all 100 doves show up. I have had up to 200 birds at the feeders. Oh DO NOT place a feeder with in 20 feet of any big bushes. You will have 100s of birds making flights in and out of the bushes which will kill the bushes from to much bird droppings and their wings will beat the leafs off the branches and keep them off forming a tunnel that destroys the bushes. As long as there is no bush that the birds can use the same flight path all the time then your bushes will be fine. Birds are creatures of habit they use the same flight path all the time if its close to food.

For the birds, not the squirrels
Got these for the birds and because the squirrels are not supposed to like these. So far, the squirrels haven't bothered the feeder as much as they did before I mixed these seeds in.
