Describe the color of the Auburn scraped flooring. Does it look mainly red? Does it show dirt....hard to clean?
Asked by: JC
The floor is a darker shade! I don't really see much red in ours at all. It's very easy to clean! Dirt doesn't show up much but dust and dust bunnies do, of course. Its an excellent choice for flooring! We absolutely love ours.

We would like to avoid a transition if possible. I plan to install 1500 sf over plywood in 4 bedrooms and the hallway. Two of the bedrooms have 4' doorways, and the install instructions require transitions for "doorways of less than 4 feet". The hallway is about 30' long with a bedroom door on each side, so from a diagonal view I can draw a straight line about 60' from the front to the back. The attached image shows the intended direction of the planks. Given that the two doorways are angled and 4 feet wide, will I need transitions there? I assume the other two doorways will need a transition? Thank you!
Asked by: Mike
I did not follow the instructions per se and I had a similar project. I ended up doing transitions in the places where I wanted to change the direction of the flooring. So, in your picture example I probably would do all the bedrooms with planks going left wall to right wall. One thing that you may run into in doing it all the way it's is draw if frustrating connections. For example in BR2 you are carrying your planks from the foyer full of short cuts into a room with minimal cuts and you will be running planks both directions. it can be done but I found it frustrating because when you tap a piece into place you have nothing to tap against (so you tap one piece and another comes apart). Further, when you get to the wall in a BR like #2 you may end up with cuts you don't like or find out a wall or your flooring is not entirely straight. That being said, if it were me, I would do transitions in BR 2 and 3 to change the direction of the flooring. I would then also transition the other 2 so all the BR's match. If I left out any transition it would be from the master BR into the foyer. Of note, the trim pieces come in fairly long sections, so even tho they are pricy, you might be able to do 2 doorways with each piece. Hope this helps. I am a DIYer so take that for what it's worth, too.

Do we need to use additional underlayment for putting on wood subfloor? Do you recommend more?

Asked by: Chip
No, but I would put down a vapor barrier to prevent moisture from coming through.

Can this be installed on ceiling?

Im looking to replace my popcorn ceiling with wood. I have a vaulted ceiling
Asked by: VB2
I don't think so. It is heavy. Pick up a sample piece at HD. Flooring has foam backing too to take up floor misalignments.

Outlast+ Auburn Scraped Oak 10 mm Thick x 6-1/8 in. Wide x 47-1/4 in. Length Laminate Flooring (451.36 sq. ft. / pallet) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 158.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Family with four young kids, perfect Our two-year-old was diagnosed with asthma, so we had to get rid of the whole-house carpeting. Replaced it with this product. I thought I was just doing something practical, but it turned out to be BEAUTIFUL to boot. Everyone always complimented the floors the moment they stepped in our house. We sold our place about a year later, and the ROI on this one update was 200% in our case! We plan to put the same flooring in the new house.

And the floors look nice. However, the reviews regarding chipping are spot on. 5 months and two chips. If you have children this probably isnt the flooring for you. Anything that drops on the floor will likely result in a chip.

This was highly recommended by a Home Depot associate for a high traffic area with potential water spills with people coming in from the pool. The flooring looks nice, but creaks and cracks, sounds incredibly cheap and is like walking on concrete. Asked Home Depot for suggestions on how to possibly make this flooring tolerable and their response was "tough luck".

We have a very small, very RARELY used bathroom we installed this in. Within a month there was a small chip, and just today I noticed a big chip in the middle. Note that there are NO kids in the house, just 2 adults that hardly ever go in the room and NOTHING was dropped on it. Does this happen just by WALKING on it barefoot a few times? Bizarrre! I can't imagine how livid I would be if this was in a large, visible, actually used room! If a higher end Pergo can do this I don't even want to deal with ANY laminate, no matter how good it looked when FIRST installed? Very disappointing, and seeing people's experiences in other reviews with the "warranty" it isn't worth my time to deal with such nonsense. NO repeat business for this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love my floor I love the look and feel of my my Pergo. We transformed a dreary first floor with old carpet and tile to one that looks like it came from a design magazine. We still have a couple minor issues to be fixed (some gaps between planks) but otherwise the floor is great. Make sure you get an installer that knows the product and knows how to install floating floors with the 24 hr water resistance. That is so important.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from looks beautiful I had very old carpet that needed replaced. I had been looking at Pergo for a while. when outlast came out I was sold. I have 3 dogs and needed a floor that would stand up to what 3 dogs could do to it. My husband installed it in our living room and hall. I would recommend this flooring to anyone. It cleans up easily and looks fantastic.

Having used Pergo for years, I saw this at Home Depot and was excited and installed across my living room, entry way and hallway-- within 6 weeks the finish was wearing off at multiple locations- and the warranty is a JOKE! we contacted Pergo (owned by Mohawk), who referred us back to Home Depot, who referred us back to Mohawk!... finally after 6 weeks, they sent out an inspector to evaluate the issue, and here we are 8 months after our claim, and no response! Not a "denied", not a "here's what we can do for you" - just nothing.. and Home Depot doesn't return calls either... Run away from this product as fast as you can

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It has taken me a while to get the flooring installed as I am living in the home at the same time... It has taken me a while to get the flooring installed as I am living in the home at the same time as I am installing it so have had to move furniture, remove the old flooring, paint the rooms and then install the new flooring. As for the flooring, I am happy with the end result and we will see over time how it holds up, etc. The reason I did not give it a higher overall rating is due to the lack of quality controls by the manufacturer. You will definitely need to purchase more than the square footage you are wanting to cover. Many of the pieces had corners that were chipped in the middle of a carton. There is no apparent reason for the chips other than in the manufacturing process. Other pieces in the same carton were perfectly fine. Also, several pieces had the underlayment glued on the wrong side of the plank. It was glued on the top side rather than the bottom. There were also pieces with damage to the male or female sides for no apparent reason other than damage occurring during manufacturing and then allowed to be boxed up with other good pieces. So in addition to the need for extra due to leftover pieces at the beginning or end of a run that can't be used elsewhere you will need to allow for damaged or poor quality pieces in the cartons. If you are going to install it yourself I would recommend spending some time watching some of the videos on youtube on installing laminate flooring, etc. There are some good tips that will help with the planning and installation of your flooring especially in the tricky areas like doorways, closets, etc.
