Questions & Answers

Does this come with the under layment already on the back of each piece?

Asked by: Chance
Yes it does and it is awesome and beautiful!

My flooring contractor wants to know if we can purchase this flooring without the underlayment. Is that an option?

Asked by: JF
" For planks with attached underlayment, it is acceptable to install Pergo FloorMate™ underlayment prior to flooring installation if desired. Make sure to follow the Pergo FloorMate™ installation instructions, taking special care to seal all foam edges with sealing tape and repair all rips and perforations in the underlayment vapor barrier prior to flooring installation. A separate vapor barrier should not be used in conjunction with Pergo FloorMate™." This is response to the person that said that using an underlayment would void the warranty.

Can the Outlast be glued down? Is it waterproof?

Asked by: Chip
This shouldn't be glued down and it's not completely waterproof like a vinyl floor.

Is it waterproof from the underside too?

The room i want to put it in was a gatage before. The foundation is alittle thinner and i am worried the moisture from the hround will ruin the flooring from underneith.
Asked by: Cheryl
I am not positive about the underneath. I have this in my bathroom and love it. It is on a normal subfloor, not cement. I was actually thinking I would put this in my basement family room with a sub-floor underneath for any moisture.

Outlast+ Vintage Pewter Oak 10 mm Thick x 7-1/2 in. Wide x 47-1/4 in. Length Laminate Flooring (19.63 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 467.

I have never used a floor laminate before as I have always been skeptical of them, especially for looks and durability. I was doing a small bathroom remodel project (56 sq. ft.) and planning on doing tile but after doing the entire shower surround in subway tiles, I was "over" installing tile. Looking into other options, I found the Pergo Outlast. I was still skeptical of laminate and now also skeptical of the waterproof nature, but figured it was a small enough space, I could re-do it if it didn't work for some reason. HOWEVER! The Pergo Outlast was amazing! Upon inspecting the product - it was strong and looked amazing. Upon installing the product - it was easy to cut, put in place, and has tight seams in both directions. Upon pushing a heavy bath vanity across the floor - it didn't leave a scratch. Upon accidentally spilling my beer while installing the trim - it responded perfectly. Upon seeing the finished project - it is beautiful! I have been won over to Pergo Outlast and am planning to install it in the remainder of my basement remodel. Strong product & easy to install. Installed by: Stay-at-Home Mom who wanted to save money by doing the project herself. Tools used: Plastic vapor barrier (recommended for basement floor installation), circular saw & jigsaw (didn't have laminate floor cutter), tapping block & mallet (very helpful).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Laminate, Easy To Install, GORGEOUS Overall we're very happy with the way the floors turned out. I will add some tips below: 1. Use the proper tools (tapping block, fine tooth saws, moisture barrier) without them you'll damage the planks and end up paying more in the end. 2. Don't be cheap. Make the cut you need and move on. I made the mistake of trying to optimize material usage and wasted hours. 3. Get appropriate thickness baseboards. Pergo recommends a 3/8 boarder, which varies depending on how straight your walls are - finish the floors, find your max gap, and but baseboards accordingly. 4. Have fun with it, get your spouse involved. With 2 people, one making cuts and the other laying, it goes MUCH faster. 5. Order more material than you need. The additional trip to the store isn't bad, but waiting 48 hours for acclimation can kill a weekend project. 6. When sealing the edges and baseboards, be liberal with the caulk. Using the gap filler helps a lot, but ensure your seal all sides of the laminate. 7. Have fun!

Purchased, allowed 4 day acclamation of product, installed by licensed professional. Initially all OK, 5 months later a separation defect appeared in one of the planks. Filed warranty claim through Home Depot, Pergo stalled for 3 weeks, then denied claim without even coming onsite to inspect. Hired professional inspector to confirm product defect. Mohawk industries does not stand behind the claimed warranty. Claimed chip or impact damage, which clear from photos would have damaged both planks if so. Completely disappointed.

My husband and I have put down a laminate floor before. This one seems to be thicker and better quality than the floor we put in last time. We just got two puppies, so we like that it is waterproof in case of an accident. The color is very nice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage It bubbled the first time my 12 pound dog peed on the floor when I was at work. I bought the 24 hour outlast pergo because it said it could handle a spill and accidents up to 24 hours. Well that simply is not true. I left for work at 7:30 AM and came back at 3:00 p.m. The Dog had had an accident and immediately I noticed the floor had bubbled up where he went. The next day the same thing happened at a different spot and it bubbled again. I am so mad right now. I just put the floor in less than a week ago. I paid someone almost $500 to help me install it and it took a four days of work and three miter saw blades to boot. This stuff dulled the blades quickly. It was a pain to put together but I made sure each piece was put in perfectly. Once we finished I thought wow this is a great looking floor. Well I should have followed my rule to never buy laminate because this stuff cannot handle anywhere near 24 hours. So basically it is garbage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful performance We installed about 400 square feet of this in our living room and dining room. It is absolutely beautiful, hides debris from our kids and pets nicely, and we love the piece of mind that a little liquid spilled wont damage the flooring. With 4 kids water damage from spills was a huge concern of ours. cleaning the pergo is really simple. we often just sweep and swiffer it, its comes out beautiful every time. Once i got the feel for installation this went in really really fast. me and my dad finished the install (with the backrod, silicone sealant, and new trim) in about 8 hours with a little help from my wife. We found the installation to be quite simple although it certainly required getting a feel for the locking mechanism. we found the angle to join them was very important and that being gentle with the joints was the best approach.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I recently acquired a little over 1,000 square feet of the Pergo outlast. I can tell you, it mad... I recently acquired a little over 1,000 square feet of the Pergo outlast. I can tell you, it made my house look so much better. Quality of the product seems great, but, I took the time to write this review because of the installation quality and efforts of Home Depots Installer in Tampa Florida (US Installation Group of Tampa). To be honest, while I like the product, I wish I had been able to work with a different installer. Some highlights: 1) Pergo outlast requires quarter round to be on the edges to cover the space between baseboard and wall. The installation of this required item was not included in the standard installation price (if it's required, it should be) and cost an extra 600 dollars for the installation. I inquired about doing that myself, as my wife doesn't like the look of quarter round. We were told no, it was mandatory for the installer to do it. We inquired about a different product with a different look - they wanted to charge almost 2.20 a linear foot for that product to be installed (baseboard rate, instead of quarter round/shoe moulding rate). We found a compromise product, and were told it would work. We then were forced to pay for the installation, but during that process were told by the installer it wouldn't work, and they wouldn't touch it if it wasn't quarter round (the answer on the compromise product came from installers back office). I then had to return all of the product to Home Depot and swap it out. 2) My installation had tile removal. It was on the sales order from day 1, yet when the installer showed up, he looked around and told me he doesn't do tile removal, and left. I called the office to figure out what to do next (was ok at this point with what I thought was simple error in scheduling), was told they would call me back and let me know when to expect a tile demo crew to come out. I waited over an hour before calling back to be told "it won't happen today, and I need to talk to my manager". I tried to figure out why the talking with the manager didn't happen within that hour, and after several more hours went to my HD store to enlist their help to get it sorted out. That produced a "they will be there sometime between 8:00 and 11:00 to demo the tile". In this process over half of my house is crammed into the three rooms not getting Pergo Outlast, and I have a 4 year old hiding in the master bedroom to try and keep her from playing jungle gym on the major furniture. The next day, with the kiddo and wife in the bedroom, we waited.... until noon. When I called, to find out they would be there at 4:00 PM. I waited until 4:45 before I called back (installer on their way!). Installer #2 gets there and says "yep, there is tile to demo", and leaves. 3) Finally, two days late, crew #3 shows up, and gets to work. Tile demoed, floors start going in, but now the installation is delayed by a day for the finish out. Crew comes in the next day and finishes it off. A day late. Original estimate was a Tuesday - Thursday installation, it's now done on Friday. Had they properly scheduled (and read the sales order) then this would have done early, and I would have left a glowing review. 4) For my trouble they offered me a 50.00 HD gift card. Keep in mind this is now two days of no action, three crews, and more nights of eating out than anticipated. This part was frustrating, as 50.00 doesn't even cover the two nights (since they finished in 2 days instead of 3) of eating out for a family of four. 5) I then found some issues with the installation. It creaks and cracks in parts of the floor, but not other parts. There are several spots where you step on the floor and it visible sinks (not supported). I contact the installer for their one year warranty, and was told we will call you back today to schedule a return visit. That was seven days ago. I still haven't heard back from the installer. So while pergo may be a great product, and the local Home Depot people are awesome, this entire process has convinced me not to upgrade the remaining rooms with anything from Home Depot (or at least installed by these guys). 4.5 stars for the product. 4 stars for Crew #3 who did the installation 0 stars for the back office staff of US Installation Group of Tampa.
