It needs to be bigger to protect against squirrels Indeed can protect feeder from rain but not if strong gales, only light rain ON feeders smaller than the drip line (diameter) of this dome

Here goes. It is 16" in diameter as advertised. Had a hard time getting the pic with my cell and hard to see the measurements. Hope this helps.

Yes, the plastic should withstand a jigsaw or keyhole saw. I don't have the baffler any more but the plastic is fairly thick and strong.

It should fit if you take care to vacate the entire insert. No problem with cracking yet. Don't know about winter and freezing conditions.

Yes you should be able to do that, just have to slide it from the hook end down to the level you want.

probably very well, assuming that the rain falls straight dow, and this definitely work for snow, which is a big problem for feeders

The item as is definitely will not "squirrel proof" a bird feeder, but with some modifications will actually work ~90% of the time and 100% if the squirrels are small. This was one of my Covid-19 projects while following the "stay-at-home" rules in NY. Besides bird seed, this was the only thing I purchased since I had some old Shepard hooks in the garage and additional hardware needed. First attempt failed since I had no idea how high they could jump and how athletic/acrobatic could be. Believe it or not, they actually chewed away the plastic inside piece that holds the hooks! Anyway, the solution was to remove the curved hooks from ~4 ft high dual Shepard's hook, then attached an additional smaller/thinner one to gain enough height and hang the feeder. Since they can actually squeeze through the small hole in the middle, I screwed a piece of sheet metal to close the opening in the middle and made a small hole for it to slide through the top hook. Then used a small C-clamp so they can't easily get on top of it, and even if they do, it spins around so generally they can't get a foot (claw) hold. Finally I purchased another one since the bigger squirrels could easily defeat it, and installed the extra one above the first hood, also with sheet metal over the large hole and mounts to make it unstable. Finally this keeps all but one of the largest and most aggressive of the beasts off of the feeder, but we have an understanding and he usually jumps off with a little verbal convincing or throwing a golf ball:-) Maybe I should post a video since this may be interesting to others? Would have given 5 stars if I didn't need two of them and engineering skills to make it work. My recommendation would be to increase the diameter to ~19 inches which should be able to defeat even the largest squirrels.

GOOD Product
I have two of these that have been up for years in the Colorado weather. I use a plant hook from the tree to a short chain for one and the other hangs from a hook on a tree limb to the baffle. I then hang the feeder to the inside hook of the baffle. Works fine for me.

It kinda of works, You have to remember Squirrels are smart, and if they want something they will figure out a way. Ours actually hung from from the branch behind the Guard/Baffle like a gymnast and than grabbed the chain the suet cake was hanging from and avoided the baffle all together, while other Squirrels were not so bright and it worked great. So it is a 50/50. Now we ended up using the hot pepper suet cakes with the Guard/Baffle and we found total success and we have it on a shepard hook instead of the tree now. So I would say give it a try it is worth the money.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.
Poor design
This item is not secure, the baffle moves in the wind. When the temperature drops it becomes brittle plastic and crack. Try and fine one made out of metal. It did not even last one month in Northeast Ohio .

We are sorry to hear that this product did not work for you! When the baffler is hooked from above, squirrels can't cling to the surface of it, causing them to slide off and give up. A more persistent squirrel may put its weight on the baffler in efforts to access the bird feeder below, but after climbing onto the baffler, it will quickly tilt, sending the squirrel down to the ground. Alternatively, when placed on bird feeder poles from underneath, this baffler is designed to prevent squirrels from gaining access to the feeder above them. If you find that you still not 100% satisfied, it is nice to know that you may return it within 30 days of the purchase date. Feel free to contact us at 1-855-737-5973 for more information!

This Squirrel baffler does not work at all. The squirrels have figured out how to hang with one foot at the top of the dome and stretch their body down to the bird feeder, suet holders.... I have gotten to the point of putting Vaseline all over the dome and wires now. Its become more of an inconvenience and costly hobby. I do not recommend this item.
