Q:I love these ant guards! Have you thought about producing and selling refills for the disk inside so that all the plastic is not being recycled or worse, thrown in the garbage each year or so?

A: I leave them outside (in southern California) and they last several years, usually until the plastic housing breaks. Great simple product.

A: Technically yes, but the plastic gets brittle over time. We have our feeders out all year, but to prevent broken feeders - yes, it has happened twice- when these traps break, we replace them every year.

A: Yes, they keep the ants out for many seasons. The plastic hooks tend to become brittle and break after a year or more. So be careful not to stress them. If they break, I just drill a hole and replace them with wire or string.

Q:I have seen ant moats that drown the ants. I don’t want to do that. Does this harm the ants or just keep them from getting to the feeder?

A: This product repels ants away from the feeder. It does not kill them.
by|Sep 13, 2021
A: No it doesn’t harm them, just deters. I’ve been using this for years and for the most part it does the job. I’ve had ants get around them but very rarely.

A: I have never seen dead ants underneath my feeder but this does contain a chemical deterrent that works really well for keeping ants out of the feeder. I've used this type for many years with success.

Does not fit, needs S-hook
This has such a bulky hook that it does not fit the most common Perky-Pet hummingbird feeder they sell without an S-hook. They should include hooks with the item or redesign it.

I bought this for my small glass hummingbird feeder that used to belong to my grandmother. After 2 days in the shade, the plastic hook broke, and my antique feeder crashed to the ground and shattered. I have cameras on my home, and the footage shows that there wasn't any wind because my flowers that were hanging 2 feet away weren't moving, and no one was around to cause it to fall. My feeder was glass but it was very small, so it was NOT because of the weight. This is very cheaply made and it will break your feeder, so don't trust it.

I’ve been using this ant guard for years. When I don’t, the ants attack. I recommend it highly.
