Lavender Field Top-Fill Decorative Glass Hummingbird Feeder - 16 oz. Capacity

This is a really lovely hummingbird feeder. The birds have taken to it immediately! It has slightly more capacity than we really need (I prefer to clean the feeders often, and the birds never go through THAT much nectar) but the easy-open and easy-clean top are such a nice feature, I almost want to transition all of our feeders to this style. That it looks lovely hanging in the garden is just a nice bonus.

I ordered the Perky-Pet Lavender Field Top-Fill Decorative Glass Hummingbird Feeder to add to our hummingbird feeders for this spring season. The lavender color glass, purple base and red feeding buds will add variety to the rest of our feeders. The fact that it has a purple base had endeared it to my 4-year-old granddaughter as that is her favorite color. My favorite feature is the top feeder design which allows me to replenish the sugar water with a pitcher without removing the feeder and turning it upside down as with my other feeders. Now we just need the hummingbirds to show up – they are late this year. I am sure they will flock to this new attractive feeder and provide hours of hummingbird watching enjoyment this summer.

First off let me say this is a quality product. It's glass with a lid that fits on the top so filling it is easy. Also, I read it's better to use glass for these feeders. The lid has a rubber seal which keeps ants out. The hanger is sturdy wire. The entire feeder is attractive and functional except for one part. There is no bar for the Hummingbirds to rest on while they are drinking. They have to hover while they drink. I'm sure this feeder was designed by someone who has experience with hummingbirds but my other feeders have bars around the feeder at each hole where the birds rest while feeding. There are many other types of bids that also drink from my other feeders. This feeder has been up over a week and haven't seen one bird at it. My other feeders are drained dry and I have to replace the nectar every 4-5 days. The no bar for resting is the only reason I advised I would not recommend this product.

We have four hummingbird feeders in our yard. Three are the Perky-Pet brand. The fourth is a one-off item. We were happy to add a fifth. I was really excited to try this Top-fill model from Perky-Pet because filling the existing feeders through those tiny, bottle top openings is problematic. There are several things I like about our newest Perky-Pet version but, there are more I don’t really care for. The top fill is an excellent feature. Not only because it is easier to fill than most, but because it is so much easier to clean the storage jar out. Which we pretty much do with each filling because either black mold occurs or, the sugar/water mixture turns cloudy. It is important for the health of the hummers to clean and disinfect to remove this and not just refill when empty. The storage jar is glass, and the hanger is thick metal. I have learned to be picky about the materials that I use outdoors because they are long term exposed to strong sunlight and moisture. Both of which deteriorate virtually everything over time. Glass, metal, stone, and cement are my top choices for materials. Plastic deteriorates from sunlight in short order. So, I try to avoid it for outdoor items. That is one of the things I’m not so fond of with this particular feeder. The top, the base and the “flowers” are all plastic. In my experience, this will not last more than a year with sun exposure. It will discolor and become brittle and then break. There is a soft plastic ring around the threaded standoff inside the base. I have no idea what its purpose is. I might guess it’s a baffle for the slots that allow the sugar water mix out into the base. I really don’t like it as it will absorb, and hold contaminates like the mold referenced above. I will probably remove it. And finally, a cosmetic item that won’t affect the functionality of the feeder and, I’m sure the hummingbirds won’t mind. But, I’m not at all fond of the lilac base color or the bright pinkish red ‘flowers” that surround the ports. For these reasons, I cannot recommend this particular feeder. But, Perky-Pet makes many other fine feeders available through Home Depot that I can recommend. My vote is for the ones that are all metal and glass, even if I must suffer filling and cleaning them through the small necked bottle openings. YMMV

This Perky-Pet hummingbird feeder doesn't leak and it keeps the bees out. My old feeder had both these problems. I had more bees visiting my old feeder than hummingbirds. Because this is a top loading feeder you have to be careful about how you mix your nectar blend. My old bottom loader allowed me to add nectar formula and water and then shake it like a martini. With the Perky-Pet, I chose to pre-mix my blend in a separate container and then pour it into the top of feeder.

Dimensions: cover 3.5" , base 5.25" , height 7.5". Overall height with handle is 10.5”. Nectar recipe: mix 1 part sugar with 4 parts water, no need for a color additive.

At the onset, let me say, I am not a one star reviewer. It takes alot to get me to even review with 3 stars but this Perky Pet Hummingbird Feeder has a design flaw or something. It is a nice feeder with a glass housing. It is a lavender color and looks nice hanging outside. It is extremely simple to use and easy to fill. I hung it on the side of my shed and made sure the bracket was level. I filled it with the Perky Pet ready to use liquid, left it on my work bench while I hung the bracket (not included) and came back and there was a puddle underneath the feeder. I then hung it on the bracket and it still leaks. Not just a slight drop but a steady drip from multiple ports. I tried adjusting the rubber gaskets around the ports to no avail. Perhaps I did something wrong, but I followed the simple instructions and it has already leaked out over half of the tank in less than 15 minutes. Maybe I received a defective one, but that's quite a defect if I did.

This is a very cute, easy to use hummingbird feeder. I got this one to replace some plastic ones I had that were getting mold in them. I tried to clean them but the mold kept coming back. I wanted to try a glass one to see if it might last longer. I love that this one fills from the top. It makes it so much easier and less messy. The glass is pretty thick and overall this feeder is really sturdy. It is about 7 inches from the top of the glass to the bottom of the feeder and approximately 3 inches across. The bottom part is a little wider, maybe 5 & a half inches. The little feeding flowers are soft and bright colored. The glass is a lightly tinted lavender color. I hung this on my back deck and the hummingbirds found it right away. I am pleased with this feeder and am sure I will get many years of use from it.

Complete disassembly for easy thorough cleaning combined with no-spill top filling makes the PerkyPet Lavender Field Hummingbird Feeder the best feeder I have. The soft flowers just pop out and the bottom unscrews and separates completely. There are no tricky corners to try to clean, just wash and wipe out. The gasket on the bottom prevents solution loss from the full one pint reserviour and allows the top to be pulled out for easy refilling without the solution just running out the feeder holes.

This is my first hummingbird feeder is my first. It seems much simpler than lots of the plastic ones with very few parts. All of the parts pop apart from the molded glass center jar. I can see that cleanup will be a breeze. You can tell from the pictures that it is packed very well and should survive most any shipping methods. There is not an included recipe or any instructions as how to place the feeder. I hung it from a screw hook under the soffit in my house. I started with a one to four, sugar to water mixture but didn't get any interest. A one to two mixture has attracted a single, mostly brown hummingbird. It doesn't seem he's impressed enough to tell any of his buds.
