Can this be attached to a pole already in the ground? I have a shepherd's hook in the ground and this would need to slip onto the pole.
Asked by: yardman
Yes you should be able to do that, just have to slide it from the hook end down to the level you want.

Weather guard

I'm most interested in using this as a rain/weather guard for a hanging feeder. Anyone have feedback on how well this would work for that purpose?
Asked by: JP
It works very well. That is why I purchased it.

My feeder is standing on a 4" x 4" x 8', so I will have to cut out the center for mounting. I need to know if the material will withstand say a jigsaw or other method of cutting.
Asked by: Jaycee
Yes, the plastic should withstand a jigsaw or keyhole saw. I don't have the baffler any more but the plastic is fairly thick and strong.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Should work with some extra hardware Round one I had this hanging from a tree branch on a closed chain and that managed to keep squirrels out for two days. On third day they either spun the feeder enough to unscrew plastic screws, knocked the baffle's plastic hook off of the chain, or simply stripped the plastic screws by force (it was a 3 squirrel attack). Either way feeder ended up on ground with its plastic hooks apart. I went to the hardware store and purchased a small metal turnbuckle that would fit through the hole in the plastic hub where the plastic screws had been and also bought two lap-link connectors (the kind you can screw open and closed). With the lap-link connectors on both ends of the turnbuckle, one to the chain and the other to the feeder, and the turnbuckle going through the plastic hub, the squirrels should be kept from disconnecting anything. The plastic hook design that this comes with really isn't up to thwarting determined squirrels but this inexpensive modification should be. Round two now begins ....

I couldn't even use the mount and had to figure another way to make it work. I drilled holes in the baffle and used an old metal coat hangar to secure the baffle to the bottom of my feeder. If they could update this issue so it would fit a larger pole, that would increase its usefulness.

I use them to keep rain out of the feeders. Wet grain and nijer seed are really a gummy mess to get out of limited access feeders. FYI-I also have a feeder that has a "squirrel cage" around it....the young squirrels love to get INSIDE it and eat as much as they want!!

The squirrels have figured out how to hang with one foot at the top of the dome and stretch their body down to the bird feeder, suet holders.... I have gotten to the point of putting Vaseline all over the dome and wires now. Its become more of an inconvenience and costly hobby. I do not recommend this item.

I had it too high and the squirrels used it to get to the bird feeder. I lowered it and now no squirrels. Very pleased. Though the plastic mount has been chewed so not sure about longevity.

If you put it too close to a shed/fence/tree squirrels will jump on top of the Baffler and hold on to the pole. I moved it about 10 feet away from any structure or tree and it works great. I laugh at the stupid squirrels banging their head on the baffler.

I have bought several of these and always have to replace the plastic hooks after they break. The idea is good and the baffle seems to work, but the plastic hooks are a weakness in the manufacturing.
