The roof is not long enough
The seed gets really wet and starts to get moldy. I noticed that the roof is not long enough. The water just rolls back in.

It leaks like crazy
I didn't realize it until it was too late to return. It leaks from where you fasten the roof and ruins the seed. It made a nasty mess at the bottom to the point that birds couldn't reach the good seed. I just thought the birds were adjusting to the new feeder, but they just couldn't eat from it.

We're sorry to hear that this occurred, when the roof is secured tightly, water should not leak into the feeder. Please contact us directly at 855-737-5973 for assistance, we're happy to help!

pretty good but.....
Customer review from homedepot.ca logo
I've had this feeder for about 4 months. it works well at keeping squirrels out however, smaller animals like chipmunks or even small squirrels will figure out a way to get at the seed. they hang from the roof, even have one foot on the hopper and manage to get at the seed. Better yet, i'm writing this review because i just came in from outside and found three mice inside the bird feeder gorging themselves. i have no idea how they got in, the roof was on correctly, i will have to have a closer look tomorrow. overall i like it, it's well built, it looks great and the birds love it. i just need to figure out how to deter the other animals.....

I have the feeder mounted on a pole with a squirrel shield below that is effective so I cannot report on the effectiveness of the feeder against squirrels. The feeder allows up to four small birds to feed at the same time (usually it's 2-3) or one larger bird (grackles, cardinals, red-wing blackbirds, bluejays,...) because they need to perch sideways to the feeder openings. The adjustable spring allows you to have the feeder openings obstructed when the total weight on the perch increases. The larger, heavier, birds will cause the feeder to begin closing up depending upon the spring setting and bird weight. One problem being experienced is the spring being bumped out of the desired setting slot, possibly by the larger birds, causing the perch to be at it's most sensitive setting. The design of the feeder reduces the amount of seeds being sifted to the ground by birds looking for specific seeds using multiple narrow openings. The birds cannot stand on the smooth metal roof except for the locking mechanism so there is less droppings to clean off of the feeder. I removed the hanger, since it is pole mounted; however, I may put it back on or close up the holes in the sides of the feeder.

The product is reasonably well made and should give years of service as a bird and squirrel feeder. That's right, it is emphatically not squirrel proof. In less than 1 day, the squirrels had figured out how to get the lid off the feeder and now they sit nicely in the feeder eating the seed. I have to put the lid back on several times per day and I'm looking for a way to keep it clamped on. And before you ask, I'm using hot pepper laced seed that squirrels are supposed to hate. My squirrels don't seem to notice the hot pepper or else they love it. In under a week 11 squirrels have met their demise while dining on bird food. As a bird feeder, it's great but don't think for a moment it's squirrel proof. They don't sit on the front (which is squirrel resistant) they take the lid off and sit inside.

Great Bird Feeder
I must have the newest model, because the top is all one piece. This prevents water from getting into the bird seed. it has been great. Squirrels quickly give up trying to get the seed. They hang on for about 2 mins and try every way possible. Eventually they drop to the ground and try to eat what was spilled by the birds.

A squirrel baffler can be used below the feeder to prevent the squirrels from climbing up the pole. In addition, please keep in mind that squirrels can jump. Ideal placement would be at least four feet off the ground and 12 feet away from any type of launch pad (tree, fence, picnic table...).

We appreciate the time taken to share this feedback and are happy to hear that you have successfully deterred the squirrels bothering the feeder. We would also like to suggest adding cayenne pepper or mixing in safflower seed to deter squirrels without affecting the birds' enjoyment.
