Now this is a very cute and attractive dog house! I have arthritis in my spine, but found it very easy to snap together on my own. That was a relief. My Olde English Bulldogge likes to sleep in a den at night, but the ugly wire crate I had for him, had to go. I didn't like the look of it in my bedroom, and after cutting my knee on it's open door one morning, i went in search of a sturdy sleeping den for my cave-dwelling canine.
This Cozy Cottage looked so much like my actual home, i thought why not try it? It is even nicer looking in person. Sturdy, thick, and no rough edges at all for my dog or myself to bruise or cut ourselves on like other houses or crates. But light-weight enough for me to carry without assistance (this might be a negative for outdoor use. Get tie-downs, or drill a hole in it's large plastic base and fill it with sand or quickcrete, so it doesn't blow away)
Now, the downsides: I use this as an indoor sleep den. It works perfectly for that. It is not insulated, so I'm really not sure how much protection this thing would give to a dog kept outside? I doubt it would do much to stave off the heat and cold. I would suggest a Petmate Igloo Dog House for tougher climates. The igloo dog houses are also more generous in interior proportions. This Cozy Cottage appears to be well-made for rainy seasons, though. Tightly built. If you want to get really creative, you could drill a small hole in the top and sides and use spray foam insulation in the wide wall gaps of these Pet Zone dog houses for a seriously top-notch outdoor shelter.
The other issue you will have, is this is a VERY small dog house on the inside! Much smaller than I had even guessed, once assembled. The exterior is nice size, but the interior is only large enough for a fat pug or beagle. It is not appropriate for a dog weighing more than 35 LBS. I know the info says up to 75 lbs... but no way! The photo in the ad of a Bassett hound is true to form - your Bassett would be spilling out of the front of this Cozy Cottage. In fact, my 50 lbs Olde English Bulldogge tried desperately to get comfortable in this thing, but to no avail. I could only order a 2" foam cushion for it's floor as it only has about 17" of head clearance inside. He was unable to stretch out in it at all. He is an extremely short, and compact dog, so if you have a 50 lbs Blue Heeler or a Spaniel, PLEASE ORDER THE NEXT SIZE LARGER OF THIS PRODUCT (called the Pet Zone Tuff-N-Rugged dog house) ! If you have 2 teacup sized dogs like Chihuahuas or small mini Dachsunds they will be comfortable snuggling in this Cozy Cottage together.
As for the only larger size offered by Pet Zone (Tuff-N-Rugged house), it is definitely larger, but still only large enough for up to a 75 lbs dog. My bulldog has found it to be far more comfortable and I donated the Cozy Cottage to a Pug Rescue Group to make room for the much larger Pet Zone Tuff-N-Rugged house. It fits him great, but would be unsuitable for any dog larger than a small Retriever or Pointer. No average Rottweiler or German Shepherd would be able to turn around in the large size.
As for the products' conditions, I received the Cozy Cottage in impeccable condition - not a scratch or bump on it. Dang, that Cozy Cottage is cute! The Tuff-N-Rugged house arrived with several deep scratches, was much more difficult to fit together, and even the Pet Zone sticker over the door opening is completely crooked. But it's glued down so well, I can't remove and straighten it. Otherwise, again, it's attractive, easy to navigate around without injury, and just looks SO MUCH NICER than other dog houses on the market. There are my warnings, and my suggestions. Otherwise, I've received many compliments on the products and they have given my spoiled, beloved, bulldog his "me space" he likes after the lights go out.
