Questions & Answers

Is this bulb good for your average (non aquatic) house plant?

Asked by: Dave
that's what it being used as. Had used T12 aquatic/plant bulbs instead of these T8. When compare the 2 next to each other the color bit different. Plants seem to do ok but T12 they do grow bit better. Went to the T8 because could not find and T12 light fixtures anymore. Still get the bulbs for T12 at Walmart, but my fixtures had gone out and left some at the old house when we moved.

Sufficient for salt water?

Are these lights sufficient for salt water use, with coral? BOTH our lights burned out last nght, and we need something NOW to get liight. Will these work temporarily?
Asked by: wendy8882
For corals you find a spectrum between 6500k and 20000k. I think these put out 2500k which may work for freshwater but not a reef. I would not even try these for soft coral and definitively not LPS or SPS. Maybe for a refugium? Look for a T5 ATI fixture and for bulbs check out, ATI (Blue plus and Aquablue Special) or Giesemann, LED is another option by Ecotech, Kessil, AI are some good brands.

I normally use one plant light and one 32 watt standard daylight in a fixture and place my seedlings two to three inches below. My current tray of tomato seedlings have been in place for about a week and are doing very nicely. The closer to the lights the better but the lights do emit a very small amount of heat so anything less than about two inches can burn leaves; especially young seedlings. These latest lights have only been in place for a week but some houseplants are underneath one of last years bulbs and are looking very healthy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Used? I have actually purchased several of these bulbs over the past few years age have been very satisfied. However whenI plugged these 2 in, side -by- side, one was distinctly dimmer than the other. In fact, all of the other bulbs near it were brighter, and some of th ose were over a year old ld. I wonder if I had been sold used bulb?
