Are these bulbs suitable for outdoor use in a porch light?

Asked by dronepilot0111 August 24, 2020

These bulbs are not rated for use in wet environments so they should not be used in an outdoor location where they would be exposed to water. They are suitable for use in enclosed fixtures, however.

I bought 2 packs because we are homebound during COV19 and I wanted to replace the curly old CFLs and 60 watt traditional lights. Replaced 4 dim-able ceiling can lights and 4 table lamps. Bought another 8 about a week later...found more CFLs and 60 Watts. Will dim but will not act like a 3 way in table lamp, much like a traditional non 3 way 60 watt. These do not get hot and are easier on the eyes than the 5k whites. If you lights get hot replace - heat=energy=waste

Bought a cheaper Home Depot brand with glass bulb. All 4 of those bulbs started flickering after being on for a few minutes. The Phillips bulbs work perfectly in the same fixture.

Lower Quality Given Price and Brand Name
Buzzing like crazy when dimmed. One bulb died ~6 months after installing. I even emailed Lutron to make sure the dimmer switch I ultimately purchased would be compatible with these bulbs.

Nice light, but short life
Nice and bright at full brightness, and if you have a compatible dimmer, color temp of these bulbs gets warmer as you dim them, as advertised, mimicking incandescent bulbs. To this end, they're great. I purchased the 16 pack, thinking I'd replace all the bulbs in my house and just be done with it. Unfortunately, their average lifespan is about 6-8 months, usually precluded by the light just turning off for a few minutes at a time, until it just doesn't turn back on again. Some of the plastic around the base of the bulb starts to crack, which is worrying, but I haven't had one completely break open yet. For a premium product from a brand like Philips, this just isn't acceptable. I have some of the earlier Philips LED bulbs (The silver-and-yellow ones) that have been solidly lit for almost 10 years. Sure, these have a 10 year warranty, but who's going to go through the trouble of going through Philips' warranty process? Not this guy...

These dim better than most LEDs and the color does get considerably warmer when dimming, which is great, but it gets a bit of a rose/pink hue to it. These are the best LED lights I have found so far that dim close to the way incandescent lights do.
