Questions & Answers

Can these reach a very dim state like a conventional bulb? I haven't found a LED BR30 bulb that fades smoothly to off.

Asked by: Gordon
No. it doesn't get as dim as an incandescent bulb. IT does however get warmer as you dim it more, which certainly does help. If you are looking for the same kind of ambiance as you get with a dimmed incandescent bulb, you are out of luck. I also have not yet found an LED that will get that low and/or as warm as an incandescent.

replace incandescent floods

Can these led floods replace regular incandescent floods in the current can or does an adaptor have to be installed?
Asked by: Surfrider
They are a direct replacement for BR30 incandescent floods and should work just fine as is. This Philips bulb may be slightly longer than others, though, so it may stick down a little further.

Customer Reviews

65-Watt Equivalent BR30 Dimmable LED Soft White Warm Glow Effect (E)* is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 97.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE These Lights When I replaced a dozen lights in my new home about 15 months ago, I used these bulbs, at a cost of $18/each. A month ago, I used the same bulbs to finish my basement... at 1/3 the cost. Finally! These bulbs give off in my opinion, what is the closest to an actual incandescent glow. As implied by their name, they get "warmer" as they dim, mimicking a true filament bulb. They get pretty dim and there's never a buzz or flicker (though this at least partially dependent on the switch, too). They are fairly bright at max brightness and in 15 months of moderate to heavy use, I haven't had one fail on me yet. I will continue to buy these for any application I can think of!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive I have been loath to use LED lighting in my home theatre due to marginal dimming performance at lower levels. This bulb is a significant improvement over competing models and is nearly indistinguishable from incandescent at all levels. They do not go as low as traditional bulbs but maintain their appearance throughout the full range. No hum, buzz or flicker on a old style analog dimmer which I was fully prepared to change over to digital. Uniform color/intensity across the bulb face with no evidence of individual led elements. Cost slightly more than others but an easy choice given characteristics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent - Best "Warm Look" LED out there! For those of you who are as picky as I am about the color of your bulbs, this is a fantastic replacement for your incandescent lights. They are fully dimmable, and they give a warm glow as they dim down. I have gone through many, many LEDs trying to get this effect. This is the ONLY LED that I have found that is an acceptable replacement to incandescent lights. No harsh white or bluish glow. It really does look like incandescent indoor spotlights!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the extra $$ vs. non "Warm Glow" I installed six of these "Warm Glow" LED bulbs in my kitchen today and am very pleased with the light characteristics - nearly indistinguishable from the incandescent bulbs I replaced. Dimming with a traditional dimmer works well and does not produce any noise. As these lights are used 3-6 hours a day, the energy savings will easily pay for them within one year. I had previously tried some FEIT LEDs which gave off light like an operating table lamp - perfectly white at all dimming levels (no thanks). These Phillips "Warm Glow" bulbs were about $3 more expensive (each) - a premium well worth it. By the way, there's no warm-up lag time with these as you would see with a Compact Fluorescent (CFL). These deliver light just like you'd expect from an incandescent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds Expectations Installed 7 bulbs in overhead fixtures in my kitchen. Color temperature exactly matches the incandescent bulbs being replaced, and the reduction in color temperature during dimming is also exactly the same. (Others may prefer bulbs with constant dimming temperature). Dimming is smooth through the whole range using existing (vintage 2013) Lutron Maestro 600W dimmer, with ZERO buzzing. Attractive design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Philips Makes Highest Quality LEDs I have now bought over 100 Philips LEDs for my home, and not one of them has disappointed, much less failed. I would avoid FEIT, for sure. CREE bulbs appear of good quality as well, but Philips are the Michelins of the LED world. Obviously a bit expensive, but so far seemingly worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice light, very bright and good flood pattern I'm super impressed with all the LED flood lights I've bought, but some have less flood than others. I wish they stated if they were flood or spot, like the older incandescent lights did, so you just have to buy a few and return what doesn't work for your application. This is a pretty nice flood spread and the light is very bright. In fact I replaced my 120W (equivalent) CFL flood with this one and the light output is about the same. It takes significantly less power than either, and works great with a nice light color output.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bulb. Works with Lutron Diva Dimmer (150 and 250 Watt) LOTS OF DETAILS/TIPS BELOW I figured I would write a review to try and save some people some time. I racked my brain (as probably everyone who is a rookie at recessed lighting has) for days trying to get things right on the first try. Between 4/5/6 inch cans, IR/Shallow/New Construction/Airtight Housings, brands of bulbs, LED Kits, which bulbs play nice with what dimmer, what wattage dimmer do I need, what size bulb does that trim need, what trim does that housing like, what color bulb, etc.....it was terrible. My black ceilings didn't make it easy since I wanted black trim to match the black tiles. If you went with a kit, then you would have to tape the bulbs as to not get spray paint on them. That is time consuming and I guarantee you wont get it perfect. I have 10 bulbs, so it would have been a hassle. There is one kit by Commercial Electric that has a magnetic plate you can take off and paint. But they have no customer service number and dimmers were hit or miss on that kit. In reading reviews I saw where certain dimmer didn't play nice with certain bulbs. Lutron and Luton both have a webpage that shows you which bulbs work with what dimmer. I think the Philips webpage for bulbs does the same. The Diva Dimmer was listed for this bulb, but not the 250W version....just the 150W. But this combo works. Be sure and check if you do something different. Here's my setup and it doing great. -Black Drop In Ceiling (Armstrong Fine Fissure) (8.5 foot tall, 10 foot normal ceilings in garage) -Used to be on 3-way regular switch (or 2 switches-1 light) and going with one dimmer on a wall and one regular switch -10 x Halo H7ICAT housings (6 inch) -10 x Halo 300P trim (white originally, but painted black) -1 x Lutron Diva 250W DVCL-253P (White) (Not sold in stores. Amazon or Home Depot on line) -10 of these bulbs One problem is the wattage of the bulbs combined. These run at 9 watts each. 10 bulbs would equal 90 watts. I still have to do the other side of the garage, which would add another 7-8. That would put me at 160-170 watts. Almost all the 3 way dimmers in store are rated at 150 watts. The one listed above is rated at 250 watts. That gives you some growing room. This dimmer is also a single pole or 3 way. Its basically everything you need in a dimmer, but expensive at about 50 bucks. I tried the Halo 310P baffle/trim, which is a black baffle with a white trim ring. I felt this left too much space in between the bulb and ring, and was also harder to install than the Halo 300P. The springs were hard to get right. But both can end up being totally black with some spray paint. The 300P has a larger ring, which allows for more mess-ups during the cutting of the ceiling tile since it covers more area. On to these bulbs.... They are great. I'm not a fan of the 5000K, daylight, blue hue lights. 2000-3000K seems to be the right spot if you are looking for that look similar to older style bulbs. These bulbs start off at 2700K (full brightness) and go to a warmish yellower tint (lowest dimmer setting). They stay on throughout the dimming process. A similar bulb (Philips LED 65W BR30 Model 459578) does not. The similar bulb comes in a box as opposed to this packaging, does not have the "warm glow" effect, and cuts off totally at about 10% dim. There is no audible hum with this bulb, and no flickering when messing with the dimmer. These also look brighter than my 22W (90 Watt Comparable) CFL lights. In the end, if you have a black ceiling, don't try the kits if you want black trims. Go this route. TIP #1 - Cutting the tile perfect. Get you a Dremmel with the circular ring attachment and an all purpose cutting bit. Mark your center of the tile and cut a hole 6.75 inches in diameter. The Dremmel makes it so much easier. Wear a mask too. You don't want to be breathing in that stuff. TIP #2 - Cleaning ceiling tiles when done. A new paintbrush works great at getting dirty prints and dust off of installed ceiling tiles. Hopefully this saves you guys some time.
