Questions & Answers

can you paint an entire car with this

hi im interested in painting my entire car using multiple cans and layers of this. will it work and stick to the car? and how long will it last? also is this washable ?
Asked by: shaq
While it is completely possible I saw some images of someone that used these spray cans to dip his entire car and it turned out awful. If you plan to dip your whole car go to dipyourcar's website and buy it in the gallons as you need much more to get a good coverage.

Can I spray this on the back of indoor/outdoor rugs to make them non-skid?

Asked by: GB
There is a specific product called SUPER GRIP also made by the PLASTI DIP. IT was made as a non-skid coating to be applied to rugs and other fabric items.

I wanted to see what my wheels would look like if they were black, so I decided to give this a try as it is not permanent. I didn't expect it to turn out well, but thought it would allow me to see how things would look before I committed to having them painted professionally. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at how great the finish turned out. There are a lot of videos and articles on different ways to apply this, or various ways people have achieved a nice even finish that is easy to remove. I read over many of them, and this is what I used personally to achieve good results. It was summer time, no wind outside and about 75 degrees, which I have read the outside temperature has a lot to do with the quality. I made sure I stored the cans inside my house for a day so they were not cold from being in the garage overnight. I shook the cans extremely well, and made sure to shake them a lot during the application. After cleaning the wheels extremely well and making sure they were totally dry, I started with one light coat. Once the light coat was dry, I then applied a second light coat and let that fully dry as well. At this point, I could barely see the original color of the wheels through the Plasti Dip. I then applied a third coat, but this one was a little thicker than the other two, I will call it a filler coat. Just filling everything in to make sure I have complete coverage. Once that was completely dry, I looked over the wheels to make sure I had perfect coverage, but it looked like there were some spots that were missing a little, or could use some more attention. I did a fourth coat that was about the same as the third coat and let that dry for the remainder of the day before I even thought about doing anything with my car. No Mounting the wheels, no driving the car, I didn't even move the wheels, just left them out to dry. By the end of the day I was able to put them back on the car, and then left it overnight in the garage before driving it the next day. They turned out great. I have had the plasti dip on my car for about two years now, and no issues. I have taken the wheels off multiple times since then, and washed the car many times, and this stuff is durable. Glad I took the extra time to make sure it came out nice. It is all in the prep work and the patience to do the light coats in the beginning. Very happy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used on S10 Wheels... I purchased 2 cans from one of your local stores and this stuff works great for many thing. Seen a few videos on YouTube for using this to coat truck wheels and it worked out GREAT on my S10. 2 cans was just enough to do 4 - 15" wheels in 4 coats each. Just be sure to CLEAN whatever you are coating first! Best part besides price - NO SANDING REQUIRED!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will buy again - color very true to black Project: 2012 GMC Canyon Mission: Chrome blackout and personal touch While Plastidip and Flexidip are on par in price, they are by no means the same product. Having used both Plastidip and Flexidip on this project (store was out and so where all the auto parts stores in 25 miles of me). Flexidip went on just as Plastidip, but Flexidip dried faster and left a smoother texture. It will be some time before I can determine which is better, but I'm putting my money on Plastidip. I just seems to have far better coverage, and after it dries seems to be more durable. As you can see in my photos, the Front bumper, Grill, Rear bumper, and name plates are all Plastidip. The door handles, wheels, and my super awesome stencil are Flexidip. Flexidip left a much smoother texture than Plastidip. I got the effect I was after, but I will probably end up redoing my wheels, and door handles with Plastidip. After using both for the first time ever, I probably would not recommend Flexidip over Plastidip. I recall seeing Plastidip on the shelves when I was in my teens, and Flexidip is a relatively new product. This leads me to believe that Rustoleum just seems to want to grab a piece of the pie. Bottom line, if your product isn't as good or better, you're going to go hungry. My 2 cents, peace and Semper Fi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing. Purchased 4 cans to spray my 98 civic hatchback aftermarket rims. Took longer than I wanted as I had to spray 6 coats per rim due to them being white. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product. Goes on even and dries quick. Will use the product to spray my entire car next!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plasti dip is a must try! To be honest i first found out about plasti dip while watching a video about a guy trying to paint his rims without ruining his old finish. I had some chrome accent peices on my car that i wanted black, but also wanted something i would be able to take off in time, and plasti dip is just that. It dries just like rubber and leaves the surface of what you paint over perfectly fine. Easy to spray and control and very easy to remove if at all ever needed to. Iv also used this product to spray non slip handles for my tools. For the price of the can you cant beat it! Will keep buying for sure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Automotive Use This product is great. I have used it on wheels and roof racks to refinish them and it works great, and if it comes out bad or you get sick of the look, you can peel it right off very easily. Works great for old faded trip, metal parts, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Matte Black Mustang I absolutely love Plasti Dip, especially now that my Home Depot started expanding the color choices and I hope they continue to do so with the many products coming out! I applied this to my car, and it looks great! (It's been Dipped for 7 months and still holding strong). You can't go wrong with any product from Performix!
