Hello Fireman, the stove has a heat guard in the rear, making the depth of the actual stove deeper than the firebox depth. -GHP Group Customer Support

Been heating my home for over 30 years with a wood stove. Bought this one to replace an old unit I have had for 30 years. I am highly disappointed in this product / wood stove. It does not even come close to what is advertise as far as performance and expectations. After stoking it up with seasoned dry wood, the most burnt time I can get out of it is 2 hours. Nowhere close to the six to eight hours advertised. It also does not put out the BTUs advertised. The fire box is so small, you cannot Stoke it up with more than a one piece of decent size wood or two small ones which gives you a very short burn time. Highly disappointed and I am seriously considering boxing it up and shipping it back at this point. There's no way you could heat the 1200 square feet that advertise. Seriously, to anybody out there thinking about buying this product to heat their house. Stay away from it.

The stove looks great, it's beautiful, and easy to set up, but that's where the usefulness of this product stops. The fire box is hard to light, even with the door open, using seasoned, year-old dry wood which burned fine in our previous stove. The fire box is so small that only two pieces the size of a 4x4 will fit. It only burns for a few hours because the wood is so small. I'm basically using fire starter wood. It is impossible to hold a fire overnight, and only holds a fire for two hours. Thus I am constantly tending to the fire. It must be designed to use a specific type of wood that is not available in the Pacific Northwest. Very disappointed with the performance, and will be replacing it soon. I would advise that you to look for another product.

When the door in the hinged a little open position, it really stokes the fire foundry hot. But it cannot maintain a fire with the door closed no matter what position the baffle is in. So 50% of its utility is gone right away. I'd give it 5 stars. I've only had smoke come out once, so I mostly leave mine open unless I leave the house, but as it is I cannot close the door at all, so I use this much less than I'd like. So there is no point to buy something you cannot use properly, so look for something else. Its not made for looks, but if your not looking for looks so I did not rate it with looks being a factor, I dont care much. One more thing: this DOES NOT come with an ash drawer! false ad on this, but its probably better without it as it permits the use of the bottom ceramic plates and soaks out more heat. its easy to scoop out the ash with a ash pan anyway, no prob there. Only other thing besides fix it so it runs with the door closed, I'd do different is make the ledge in front of the stove 1-2" larger, to prevent logs, ash falling out or to set your tools.

It really is a high efficiency unit that gets the most possible out of the wood, so once we learn what that means and that 1-2 pieces of wood at the time is all that it needed.

I build a fire and keep it burning continually. Once a week I let it burn down to coals and scoop half a bucket of ash. then add a couple dry pieces and off she goes again...I cut and split my oak wood 12 x 4 inches and it fits easy and burns a few hours. It would take longer hunks but this size layers nicely .Only thing that would be nicer is a deeper bottom to hold more ashes and burning wood . Keeps my home toasty when it is 25 out....I am using a third of the wood my big stove took last year to do same heating....I'm happy....

Been using since October to take the chill out. Good for a small area and take the chill off. The blower circulates the air. Sometimes a little difficult to get the air mix correct and need to keep front door ajar to get a good burn. Definitely takes the damp and cold off the basement which supplements upstairs leading to lower bills. Use composite brick (compressed wood blocks) and they fit perfectly.
