The Porta-Nails 16-Gauge L-Head Flooring Cleat and Nail is designed for flooring, decorative paneling, ceiling and sub-flooring applications. These nails are made of high strength carbon steel. The 16-Gauge nail is perfect for 1/2 in. to 3/4 in. solid wood flooring installations. The nails are collated with tape to ensure no glue residue can jamb tools or leave residue on floors. This nail is a perfect fit for the Porta-Nails Model 470A, Portamatic T and L 16-Gauge Floor Nailer.

I liked that these cleat/nail had a good rating from folks w/n the industry. Liked, too, that these were made from recycled steel. I used to install over 2,000 sq ft of 3/4inch oak flooring and did so without any problems due to the nails themselves. I did experience several misfeeds by the nail gun and I can say all of those were due to my inexperience using the nailer. (I sometimes hit the discharge button to lightly and followed up with a second strike, thus jamming two nails into the gun's 'nib'). I used the 1 3/4 in nails because I have in-floor radiant heat. I did not want any problems with nails penetrating into the water pex tubes. Turns out, two inch nails would have been fine too. (I installed 3/4 inch flooring over 3/4 inch sub-floor. Upon inspection none of the nails would have damaged the pex tubing.

Putting down hardwood in my entire house and decided on using the L shaped nails. I've put in almost 5000 of these through my floor nailer without one jam or misfire. Flooring is tightly held down and the nails seat in the wood nicely.
