Can this nailer be used to install hardwood flooring?

Asked by: HDshopper
This is good for trim work I would suggest using a 15 gauge finish nailer for floor use. The 18 gauge is a thinner nail.

I have never used a nail gun before and was considering buying the $200 ryobi battery powered one. I almost bought the $30 Wen nail gun before this one but it required oil. I opted to buy this one instead as I already had an air compressor and it was in stock in the store. I also bought some 1 1/4in finishing nails as that is what my project required. I got home, read the instructions, and found that the gun actually came with 100 1 1/4in nails inside the hard case. Oh well, now I have extra. I loaded the gun, built up air, and went right to work on a test piece of wood first. This gun was very easy to use, not that loud and worked great! This is an oil free model so I was glad of that. I do plan on keeping the magazine oiled slightly with WD-40 or similar just because it is metal and needs to slide smoothly. I store it in the case so this should not be much of an issue. Overall, this is a must buy and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, reliable nail gun at a good price.

Worked great for trim work in a bathroom remodel project; afterward, I was very happy with it. However, happiness quickly turned into disappointment and anger when it failed in another trim project just a couple months later. It did not even drive a single nail. Seemed to fire normally and left nail imprints in the wood... but no nails. Figuring it was jammed, I tried to clear it, but found I couldn't remove the nails as the magazine would not open. Opening the jam clearance door I discovered it was not jammed, so I don't know what the problem was. When I took it out of the case there was a small puddle of oil, which should have been a red flag. I had not oiled the tool, since P-C claims it's not necessary. I realize it's not a pro grade nailer, but thought it would be fine for DIY projects. Failing after only 4 months of ownership and light usage in one project is ridiculous. Home Depot gave me a refund, and I purchased another brand of nailer. I'll stick to the quality brands I usually buy and will never purchase another P-C product.

My old 18-gauge brad nailer gave out after 25 years and, as I was halfway through a project, I headed to Home Depot for a new one. The Porter-Cable came at a good price and is far more comfortable to use than my old one. I like the ability to open the business end of the nailer to clear a jam, though it hasn't jammed yet. The pocket hook is convenient. Very consistent nailing.

Thinking I’d field-repair it, I wasted two hours only to end up with parts I couldn’t get back together so trigger safety would work. I have other Porter Cable tools, based my choice on how those have held up for years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2nd nail gun that fails after 1 day. I bought the kit a while back as I was planning renovations. When I started using this nail gun to do install my moldings, I broke. I still had pressure with no nails. Went to get a replacement gun, started with confidence and again, no nails after 20min of usage.
