Can this nailer be used to install hardwood flooring?

Asked by: HDshopper
This is good for trim work I would suggest using a 15 gauge finish nailer for floor use. The 18 gauge is a thinner nail.

Worked great for trim work in a bathroom remodel project; afterward, I was very happy with it. However, happiness quickly turned into disappointment and anger when it failed in another trim project just a couple months later. It did not even drive a single nail. Seemed to fire normally and left nail imprints in the wood... but no nails. Figuring it was jammed, I tried to clear it, but found I couldn't remove the nails as the magazine would not open. Opening the jam clearance door I discovered it was not jammed, so I don't know what the problem was. When I took it out of the case there was a small puddle of oil, which should have been a red flag. I had not oiled the tool, since P-C claims it's not necessary. I realize it's not a pro grade nailer, but thought it would be fine for DIY projects. Failing after only 4 months of ownership and light usage in one project is ridiculous. Home Depot gave me a refund, and I purchased another brand of nailer. I'll stick to the quality brands I usually buy and will never purchase another P-C product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have never used a nail gun before and was considering buying the $200 ryobi battery powered one... I have never used a nail gun before and was considering buying the $200 ryobi battery powered one. I almost bought the $30 Wen nail gun before this one but it required oil. I opted to buy this one instead as I already had an air compressor and it was in stock in the store. I also bought some 1 1/4in finishing nails as that is what my project required. I got home, read the instructions, and found that the gun actually came with 100 1 1/4in nails inside the hard case. Oh well, now I have extra. I loaded the gun, built up air, and went right to work on a test piece of wood first. This gun was very easy to use, not that loud and worked great! This is an oil free model so I was glad of that. I do plan on keeping the magazine oiled slightly with WD-40 or similar just because it is metal and needs to slide smoothly. I store it in the case so this should not be much of an issue. Overall, this is a must buy and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, reliable nail gun at a good price.

When it finally died I bought a Bostitch, but the Bostitch doesn't accept the Porter Cable nails I have in stock. So I bought this new Porter Cable so I can use the boxes of nails I have from my old Porter Cable. It had a low price tag. I like the Porter Cable because it leaves a very small hole when the nail is driven. The small opening makes filling nail holes much easier. The Porter Cable has a smooth trigger and seems just a bit quieter than my Bostitch gun. Unfortunately, with every 3rd or 4th trigger pull the new Porter Cable fires nothing but air.

I BELEIVE THE "O" RINGS WERE GOING BAD AND SINCE THIS WAS PURCHASED FROM sEARS, I JUST FIGURED TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE SINCE I WOULD WAIT WEEKS OR MAYBE MONTHS FOR PARTS. I PURCHASED THE PORTER CABLE AND AM VERY SATISFIED WITH IT. I HAVE ONLY USED IT ONCE AND I LOVE HOW IT WORKS. nO USSUES YET WITH IT.

Although the product is light weight, compact, and functions well for its design, the nailer doesn't stop when the magazine is empty. There is no way of knowing if it is shooting blanks, other than the side color indicator. I had to return the item for this reason, and purchase another model that included the stop feature.

It does not have a empty lock out, so you will have to pay attention to the red plastic indicator on gun. Performs well and reliably. Performed right out of the box and no jams hanging 800 feet of baseboard.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought this new. It had a manufacturer’s defect. ... I bought this new. It had a manufacturer’s defect. Like many products made cheaply in China, it had a fatal flaw. Mainly, the jaw holding the brad was too narrow to allow a brad to fit into the firing chamber. I disassembled it and filed down the bad part to the proper size. Now it works.
