Put caulk over the nail holes. They going to rust if moisture gets to them.
What kind of exterior application? It is best to use galvanized nails outside. Most outdoor applications require a larger head on the nail.

These are light duty nails. You might us them to pin the board in place but I wouldn't count on just those little skinny 16 gauge nails for anything structural.
Haven't noticed the conflict you're referring to. There are 1000 nails in the box.
I used then in a slightly older Craftsman nail gun, calling for 16 gauge & they loaded & worked perfectly.
