Cedar can corrode these nails so its best to use aluminum or galvanized nails

I would not use a brad nailer for 2x lumber it is too thick. I have used a brad nailer for 1x lumber, but book cases must be designed for strength. If shelves are not supported properly brad nails may not be enough.
