1 of the best brands you can buy. Porter cable is a great product. It's heavy that's a + requires less pressure to get the job done. Speed adjustment is also useful. They are true workhorses., can't go wrong.

I used a Porter-cable belt sander when I did commercial construction 25 years ago. It was one of the most dependable tools we had. Now all these years later, we’re starting some home wood projects. I had to buy the Porter-cable because I remembered it’s durability. Nothing has changed. They’re still a top of the line product.

Porter cable
I bought this sandblaster a year ago and in recent days, I have a project that requires the use of this type of sandblaster. Very disappointed. I wrapped around the seal of the bag with tape and even with that, the bag is always empty after my work.

    Great sander
For anyone wondering how to hook up a vacuum with a 2" hose diameter to this thing, here's the easiest fix I found. Use one of these couplings: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Proflex-2-in-x-1-1-2-in-Neoprene-Shielded-Coupling-P3001-215/100133080 For the tool end, use a PVC elbow. The coupling is made of rubber and fits snug and perfect on the elbow. The coupling can be tightened a little on the hose end so the hose fits snug. To get the elbow to fit perfectly on the sander just heat the end of the elbow with a heat gun and push it into the sander exhaust port when it softens a little. Wait a few minutes until it cools and you're all set.

The sander works well, the dust collection needs improvement. The bag collects dust but it also leaks at the front of where the clamp is. The fan then blows the leaking dust onto your front hand. I took the bag off and cut a short section of 1 1/2" plastic drain pipe from a trap and put it over the hole where the bag clamps. (Fits snugly) I then put my shop vac hose over the drain pipe (fits very loosely). Using the shop vac keeps the dust out of the air and the tool is much cleaner. No buildup of dust on the wheels. If Porter-Cable included a part for use with a shop vac I would have given it 5 stars. Dust collection for sanders via a shop vac should be standard for a quality tool.

This is my first belt sander and I've learned to do my homework first. There are several standouts in the belt sander field, but I bought this one because 1) I read the reviews in the store (via my cellphone) which were very positive, and 2) it was the best one available of the several I was interested in looking at. Got it home and put it to work right away, I had a rough 6"x6" wooden beam to smooth out. I just used the 80 grit belt that came with it, and read the instructions carefully before I tried it (I KNOW!!). I scraped the beam a bit with a sharp machete to get the really rough dry splintery stuff off it first then went to town. It made short work of that beam, I'll tell you. I was impressed. The dust bag was extremely effective and almost no sawdust blew into the air. I sanded three of the four sides smooth, put a little pressure here and there to get it to look a little textured, and by the time I was done about an hour later the dust bag was around 3/4 full. The dust I dumped out was like powder. Zero problems, easy to clean and reattach the bag, and if you read the instructions the controls are simple to use and accessible. Well balanced, powerful machine and so far I am a satisfied customer.

Glad I spent the extra money and got the Porter Cable
This belt sander is a beast. I was able to strip and sand a 10 x 12 floor in less than an hour on my first pass, and that is because the first pass had poly. The second and third passes took about 30 minutes. This sander has so much power I only ran it at level 5 out of 6. Don't apply too much downward pressure when sanding - let the power of this tool work for you. It has so much power that when I put too much pressure I could smell the rubber belt a little. Extra pressure wasn't necessary. Make sure when you change belts to adjust the tracking each time. Once adjusted the tracking stayed true until the next belt change. If I had one complaint it is the dust bag. It didn't catch much dust at all. SOLID construction. This thing is built like a tank.

          Stopped working
We bought this at a local hardware store. After about 3-4 uses the belt stopped turning. The motor is churning away but the belt does not turn. Have tried everything to correct. Still doesn't work. We are pretty disappointed in Porter Cable on this one. It wasn't cheap in cost. In quality, seems to be that way. Have since shied away from Porter Cable Brand.

Died a year past the 3 year warranty
I did not use this sander more than 3 or 4 times a year. I was sanding some wood today (last time I used it was in September 2020) and small sparks and flames started coming out of the motor. Also the bag that was supposed to collect the saw dust never worked. Consequently, the motor was often covered with a lot of lose dust. It's too bad, I thought it was a tough machine, but I guess I was mistaken. There are no repair centers near where I live.
