I have a Ryobi 2100 electric power washer, the pump protector will not go thru pump no matter how hard I squeeze, any suggestions?
Asked by: Bob
Make sure you are installing it on the outlet port not the inlet port. Sounds like you're going backwards.

do you have to pull the starter cord in order to use or just screw onto hose connection and squeeze the bottle?

Asked by: scorpio
Yes. Turn the washer off and pull the starter cord once or twice. Product will appear at the output. Thats it.

What if nothing comes out of the outlet, no matter how many times you squeeze the bottle and pull the cord.

Asked by: Tammy
I had same problem. Called the help desk. They suggested a couple of different options. If it has been a while since running the washer, hook up the water hose and turn the water on for a few seconds. Disconnect and try again. Sometime the models need you to aggressively pull the cord. May also try having someone squeeze the bottle while you’re pulling the cable. I grabbed a piece of wood, placed it under the bottle, and stepped on it while pulled the cord. It worked in only a few pulls.

I purchased this product as it was suggested with my Ryobi pressure washer that I purchased at Home Depot. I watched the videos and spent about an hour trying to get the solution to go out the pump discharge. I probably pulled the cord about 75 times and pumped the bottle about the same. Not a drop of protector came out the discharge. I hooked up the hose to the pump and water blew out the discharge, tried the protector again but still nothing. I have never had a product work so poorly. I went to Lowes and purchased a pressurized protector, I hooked it up and the stuff shot out of it. That took all of 30 seconds to do. I purchased the PowerCare protector with cash and did not have the receipt any longer or I would have taken it back to Home Depot. It would have been fun to take it back as the bottle was almost half empty from screwing around with it so much and the label was practically worn off with me squeezing it so much. Do waste your time or money on this.

I got this after finding out that I needed it for my Ryobi 1600 psi electric pressure washer. I read the reviews so I already knew that squeezing the bottle as directed would not work. You need to turn the pressure washer on for a second while the bottle is attached so that the liquid comes out the other end. The directions do not tell you that so they lost a star.

I removed black cap, paper seal, put the gasket back on cap and then screwed it into the power washer as instructed. Squeeze and squeeze as haed as I could not a drop would come out of the bottle. I can't figure out what I was doing wrong, if anything.

I recently bought this and also the version that Brigges and Stratton sells. This version is more difficult to install than it needs to be. The Brigges version has a remote extension that allows you to connect the can without spilling liquid everywhere. Because the water inlet is so low, you can't attach to the washer without losing fluid with this product and no such issues with the Brigges version. The other issue is installing the product. As others have commented, squeezing the bottle doesn't do the trick. Pulling the start rope didn't ether. What I had to do was sqeeze the bottle and hit my electric starter at the same time. I guess you would need 2 people if you only have pull start, but try this if you can't get the product into your washer. Brigges version uses a spray can and did not need to pull the rope start and went in instantly. Home Depot just needs to redo the packaging and this product should be fine.

The cross hatched washer in the bottle is not permanently part of the bottle. It's suppose to to prevent leakage when you're connecting the bottle to the washer. Was not able to get fluid through the pump and out the outlet. I'm going to try the Briggs & Stratton pressurized pump protector. Never will buy this product again. All but new power washer, so no mechanical reason the fluid should not have flowed through the pump. Yes, I pulled the start cord several times... while trying to squeeze the bottle at the same time.

Finally had to buy a twice-a-year power washer since my free loaners dried-up. Got the mid grade Ryobi and it's less than what i'm used to, but it does the job. Now onto this product. HD & Ryobi say must use something like this to protect the pump. My 4000psi unit i borrowed they just had you use basic antifreeze which would gravity feed the triplex pump, but i didn't want to take a chance with these small axial pumps. Used once in the fall, then after a week or two i tried to use this product with NO success. Retired auto mechanic, so i think i know how to use a squeeze bottle, but apparently not. Removed the bottle seal, made sure the bottle top valve was the right way, tested it with a squeeze and it worked. Screwing it onto the machine lost 1-2 ozs., squeeze squeeze squeeze with nothing. Pull starter to rotate pump/motor, then repeat. Nothing. Got my neighbor to help since you can't squeeze and pull the starter at the same time, nothing. All in all we R&R this bottle several times, loosing precious protection each time till we finally gave up and i had about 1/3 of the bottle left with nothing in the pump. I finally got smart and ordered the B&S version that comes in an aerosol can for a little more money. screwed it on pump, pushed the button and out comes protectant. Turned over motor/pump several times while shooting more product in and done. in the end I think I used 1/4-1/3 of a 10.7 oz can. Moral of the story, buy the aerosol version and save your money - an $11 lesson for me.

I don't know much about the product but I bought it because it is recommended. What i can say it needs a shut off on the bottle because you spill it tipping to connect to a pressure washer . In my search at home depot In the gardening I found a shut off to fit on top of the grey adapter https://www.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-Brass-Gooseneck-with-Shut-Off-27935/203019991 .
