Do I need to unplug this whenever I turn my car off so it doesn't drain the battery, or does it stop drawing power completely when nothing is plugged into it?
Asked by: Doresoom
Depends on your car. Some cars like BMW and GM cars shut off the power going to the cig after the car is locked or turned off

I have a portable printer and laptop that I bring with me on my sales calls and this plug makes it very easy to set up my "traveling office" in the back of my SUV without having to lug everything to my hotel room in order to print out quotes and other necessary documents! This power inverter has a 3 point pivoting head, one AC 3-prong outlet, and one USB port. There are covers that slide over each outlet to keep them safe and clean. (see pics). This inverter would also be great for family trips when the kids want to watch movies or keep their tablets charged or for camping trips when you need a convenient power source for blow up mattresses, etc... This little inverter (4" x 2 3/4") has made my work life so much easier!

I tried this item to run Christmas lights in our church shuttle (less than 100 watts) during a trip for our senior adults. It would over heat after about 30-40 minutes and lights out. We would wait about 20 minutes to let it cool down, and plug it back in and it would work again for or about 30 minutes. So disappointed! The USB feature seemed to function normally. Felt a bit "flimsy" - The only good thing that I saw was that it would rotate a bit. I would not recommend this product.

RE: Power Gear - Power Inverter with USB and 90/180-Watt AC Outlet A great portable power source. Compact enough to store in the console when not in use. Provides ample power for laptop or portable DVD players to keep the granddaughters occupied on those long road trips. Also has a USB port for charging the phone and/or tablets. Perfect for swapping between vehicles.

Came nicely packaged and fit and finish seems good. It does seem fairly lightweight which gives it a somewhat cheaper feel (personally). Has a built in fuse line to keep your cars electronics safe. Works well however its compact design with a foldable neck doesn't give you enough clearance for some cigarette lighters like mine in my 03 4Runner. Overall, works well for a traditional, open cigarette lighter.

It charged my cell phone at a slower rate than another adapter that I have that was less expensive. Another thing that did not impress me was the way it is designed. It sticks out about 6 inches and I think with continuous use, it can get knocked and possibly damage the outlet or the inverter itself. It will work great in an emergency but I would not use it for continuous use.

Awesome little inverter, I like this to travel with since I can charge my laptop, phone and other 120v AC things into it. Now there is no need to get double chargers (12v and 120v) for my small electronics. It specd at 180W which is perfect for most laptops and tablets. What I dont like is in some case it doesnt hold tight enough in the Cig lighter. Overall a nice buy.

The power inverter with the USB and 90/180-watt ac outlet Model # 94315 was tested. The web page 90/180-watt description is misleading. It is actually 100 watt continuous usage with 200 watt peak. The package clearly states this information. The web page for the USB and 90/180-watt ac outlet Model # 94315 has several mistakes in the Specification section. It lists the Number of Outlets as 2. There is only one AC 3-prong outlet and one USB Port. I guess that adds up to 2 but I think that it implies that there are 2 AC outlets. The Maximum Amperage (amps) is shown as 200. This is really the Maximum Peak of 200 watts. The listing of Maximum Current of 9 is incorrect. It may be that they mean the Maximum Input Voltage is 13 VDC and the Maximum Input Amperage is 9 amps. This is all too confusing, inaccurate and misleading. I would not recommend buying this product. It will not run my Windows Laptop without overheating. It will charge my cell phone or Android tablet at a slower rate than my in house adapters. The 3 way swivel design for the connector to car power outlet appeared to be a good idea. In actual use if your power outlet is recessed and/or in the armrest compartment it may be a bit tricky to get it plugged in. A retractable cord or just any length of power cord would be better than this fixed length connector. For a phone or small tablet it will work great in an emergency or long drives. They need to remove the word Laptop from the package. The other equipment listed may be fine but I only tested a cell phone and e-Reader Android tablet.

Something like this little inverter can really come in handy in a pinch, but I think there are better options out there in the same price range. The inverter is capable of 100 Watt AC output, which I tested with my M12 battery charger that's rated for 100W minimum. It seemed to handle the load fine, and the charger indicated that it was actively charging the battery. I tested the AC plug for voltage using a multimeter and got just 106VAC with no load. It may be that the modified sine wave throws the reading of a little bit, but it's quite a bit lower than the specified 115VAC output in the manual. After a few minutes under load, I could smell an overheated electronics/plastic smell, but the fan seemed to be dissipating the heat away from the unit sufficiently. I'm unsure if this would be able to perform for long periods of time without overheating though. I was glad to discover that this comes with a replaceable 15A standard automotive fuse to protect your vehicles electrical system. It's nice that the head of the unit flexes to three different positions to provide more clearance for the inverter to plug into the 12VDC cigarette outlet, but I think I'd prefer a corded lead instead. It barely fit in both my vehicles, and I strongly suspect there are quite a few car models out there that this won't be compatible with because of tight clearances. If your vehicle has a deeply recessed 12V outlet, it likely won't be able to accommodate this charger. The 5V USB port charges my phone very slowly, but it does charge. I'd assumed this was at least a 2.1A output when I selected it, but didn't read the product description closely enough and probably would have skipped it if I realized it was just 1.0A output for the USB port.
