Bought this for my son so I have very little first hand knowledge. However he is very impressed with the speed and power. He has had some knotty wood that he has had to cycle the machine through twice but it has always split on the second time. But as he says he tries to stay away from knotty wood since it does not stack well. He heats with wood so it has been used a great deal in the last month or two.

Great unit I also recommend the 34 ton unit of this brand if you don't need something this powerful. Very simple to use almost dummy-proof, very fast in its splitting time. I have very Knotty wood and large pieces. I have yet to need another tool to finish splitting anything I put in its jaws. However with the 34 ton model I had to repeat the cycle of the plunger against the wood to get through some bigger pieces and very knotty wood (above manufacturer spec), but since I upgraded if it goes above the 34 ton spec I fire up the 42 and its a cake walk. Only thing I can say about this unit(s) is that if you anticipate on traveling on the road or for any duration of time you WILL need a trailer to transport these units. They are NOT intended to be towed for any duration of time or even on pavement PER manufacturer spec they recommend loading it on to a trailer to move it. If needed you can get away with moving across a couple acres but 1 mile plus down the paved road @ 22mph caused my unit to flip causing serious damage. Still worked but not recommended, the axle is too narrow for any real towing ability(even tho the 42 ton comes with DOT approved tires).

would not buy again. works good for a hobby woodburner but not someone who heats with wood. warranty is a joke 30 day for machine 3 year for motor. machine took 20 days to get to me, then another few hours to setup cause of no instructions being in english. after got setup used for about 1 hour and rack and spline teeth broke. called home depot they gave me a number for qv tools. called them, they were good the FIRST 3 TIMES the teeth broke. every time sending out new rack and spline sets. they take about 2 hours to install at my time, they have no service centers in the usa. now i am sitting with a almost 3000$ splitter with broken teeth AGAIN and now no support from mfg cause they claim i have the updated items. i offered to pay return shipping for unit and have replaced they refused. i know have to manually rebuild teeth back into rack and spline and reharden every time, luckly i know how to weld. i only split wood for my house, i split every kind of wood with it, if it splits the 1st try im good if not have to beat it out with a sledge hammer and put it aside cause thats the cause for stripped teeth i was told, the wood is too hard, thats the reason from the mfg. my pics here are all of the problems i have had with this unit i have since spent a large amount on a easton made splitter, which is now done 10 times as much as this one and not 1 problem overall i have had this machine 2 years now and only usable for about 2 months rest of time been either waiting on parts or having to repair myself after mfg no longer wants to deal with the issue

I READ ALL THE REVIEWS ABOUT THE DELIVERY, THE ASSEMBLY, THE LACK OF INSTRUCTIONS. THESE ARE NOT THINGS A DIY PERSON SHOULD WORRY ABOUT. THE REVEIW THAT SAID THIS MACHINE WAS A BEAST, IS THE MOST ACCURATE. I HAVE DONE FIVE CORDS OF WOOD, IN LESS THAN A WEEK. THE MACHINE SPLIT EVERYTHING. I PUT IN OIL AND GOOD GAS, PULLED IT A FEW TIMES AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. RAN IT OUT OF GAS, FILLED IT UP, AND IT STILL STARTED WITH JUST A FEW PULLS. THE KOEHLER ENGINE RUNS GREAT. I USE A SPRAY ON PROTECTIVE WHITE LITHIUM GREASE ON THE RAIL AND IN THE LUBRICATION POINT. THE WOOD WAS CUT DOWN NINE MONTHS AGO. SOME PIECES STILL HAVE SAP RUNNING OUT. THE PICTURES SHOW A LOG SIXTEEN INCHES LONG AND TWENTY THREE INCHES TALL. SPLIT RIGHT IN HALF WITH ONE TRY. ALL OF THE NUTS AND BOLTS ARE STILL TIGHT AND NOTHING IS MISSING. POWER KING HAS INFORMED ME THAT HOME DEPOT HAS NOT UPDATED THEIR INFO. THEY DO COME WITH THE SEVEN HP MOTOR NOT THE SIX AND A HALF HP MOTOR. THERE IS ONLY ONE CONTROL LEVER, NOT TWO. IF YOU ARE CAREFUL AND PAY ATTENTION YOU SHOULD BE FINE. HOME DEPOT HAD THE BEST PRICE AND THE DELIVERY WENT GREAT. GO BUY ONE FOR YOURSELF, CAUSE I AM NOT SELLING MINE.

        Fast
Arrived in a nice wooden crate, unfortunately it wasn't packed well. It had fallen through the bottom of the crate and some of the hardware was missing. One of the flywheel guards was bent as was the table. The hardware is junk. Straightened out the bent stuff, used real bolts to put it together, and tightened everything else. It seems to be built fairly well, just poorly assembled and packed. Engine started right up and is pretty quiet, but you'll still want hearing protection because of the ram itself. Not sure why it has the safety chains, it is very narrow and top heavy, you ain't gonna be pulling it down the road. Has a little vibration at full tilt but not bad, but between that and the hammering of the ram you need to recheck the fasteners occasionally, and the handle will work loose. Cycle time is about 2 seconds. I split pine, fir, spruce and aspen, sometimes I get one that won't split but usually can turn it around or split off pieces and get it done. I have a small stove and split my wood pretty small, so the speed of this was the selling point for me. Also was $400 off.

It is powerful and fast. I really like the shelf to catch each split piece and eliminate bending over every time.
