Product Overview

At 20-30% of home energy consumption, water heating is typically the 2nd highest energy demand. The Power-Pipe can dramatically cut water heating costs and reduce total home energy consumption by 5-10%. It works by using outgoing warm drain water to pre-heat incoming cold fresh water so your water heater doesn't have to work as hard. The Power-Pipe will typically pay for itself in as little as 2 years, and may qualify for Government or Utility grants. The Power-Pipe's performance has been tested in accordance with the CSA B55.1 standard and independently verified by Intertek. The Power-Pipe is safe for drinking water, requires no maintenance, has no moving parts, increases effective hot water capacity, extends water heater life, and can be used with any type of standard plumbing system and comes with a 10 year warranty. Furthermore, Power-Pipe technology is proven, practical, affordable, and in use in many thousands of homes. A Power-Pipe will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 1 ton/year per household in the average family of four.

Shame on Patrick
Shame on Patrick for leaving a bad review on something he's clearly ignorant about. This is to warm the water going INTO your water heater, reducing the amount of work it has to do to heat the water up to temperature, by using hot shower water that you're already draining. Less work = less energy costs. I have zero clue as to why he's rambling on about tempering your faucet water. Only thing i can think of, is that the genius seems to believe that this connects to your hot water line. Thats the only way his rambling makes anything even remotely resembling "sense"

You should understand that you are merely mixing cold water in with your hot water. There is NO addition to the total therms in your hot water heater. Another way to temper the water at your faucet is to up the cold water input at the shower. Shame on HD for selling this.
Mines been working 4 years now.
I installed this 60" long unit below my master shower. Because our incoming water is only 41-42F, my electric 28kW on demand water heater could only supply one hot shower at a time. With this heat recovery unit, two simultaneous showers are no problem. Highly recommended. If you have a traditional tank style water heater, this unit will extend the number of simultaneous showers that can be had before the water eventually runs cold. The money I've saved has almost paid for the unit.
