Questions & Answers

Is this snow blower self propelled

Is this snow blower self propelled
Asked by: Logan
No, you have to lift the wheels, one spinning, the other idle, and push the boat anchor back to the garage where you keep the snow shovel.

In order to utilize the power assist, Is there a power cord on the snow blower that can plug into an outlet?

Asked by: Ken
No cord is provided. Any extension cord will work.

Since no throttle, does the auger always turn while the engine is on? Or does it have to be engaged by the lever to begin spinning?

Asked by: Jay
The lever on the left handle engages the auger (which chews up and spits out the snow,) when pressed down. The lever on the right engages the drive (wheels turn, pushing the snow blower forward.)

Here we are in the middle of one of the most snowiest Wisconsin winters in decades. Our Powersmart two stage snow blower only works for nice light fluffy snow. All our neighbors are out snow blowing with their non-powersmart blowers and if the snow is even a little wet it freezes up and won’t work. I lubricated the shoot. It doesn’t help. I would also recommend not getting a plastic shoot. It’s junky and always falling apart. Living in a residential area, we have to be careful with where the snow is being blown to and it’s difficult to control the shoot. The mechanism which turns the shoot is a spiral rod. This gets caked up with ice and causes the rod to miss the slots it’s suppose to slide into in order to turn the shoot. On top of this there may be a recall on the model we purchased. I first registered with the post card and it came back as undeliverable. I then registered online. I tried calling the company about the recall, after holding for 30 minutes, it says they can’t take the call and to leave our number and they would call back. They never called. Long story short. Don’t buy a powersmart snowblower.

It cuts through the heavy stuff at the end of the driveway with ease. The handle that turns the chute can be tough to turn and sticks a little at times. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

Sturdily built, amply powered with a classic engine. I've used several snowblowers over 40 years. The designs have really improved. Recently I had a low-low-price machine, which worked well, but the chute controls were awkward. I wanted to try a machine with handlebar chute swing/tilt, and got the PowerSmart 72024. I am very pleased with these chute controls! No more walking around to bang on a chute screw. Left-right swing is very quick, ideal when I have to divert the blow around garage or gate. Up/down angle is even easier. The 2-stage auger and fan are very much like my last one, which cleared snow very effectively even in a Maine winter on a 500 foot driveway. That length does take time; 100 foot is more reasonable if you don't have time. The engine is a well-known Japanese design which has powered scooters, small plows, concrete mixers, and now most of the snow machines on the market. I loved it on my last snow blower, and on my generator, because it starts easily. When it gets very cold, I prefer to use the plug-in electric start to save my back; but if it has been run today it will re-start with a mild pull on the handle. This engine design also has a reputation for out-lasting the machine it is on. Snow blowers can be hard to steer because the wheels usually turn together and fight on a turn. This is good when you are running long straight paths. It can be tiresome to turn-around at the end of the driveway. The 72024 claims 'power assist turning'. Another brand has finger-triggers which decouple one wheel so the machine turns. This machine has no such triggers, but instead has a differential which allows easy turning. I played with this mechanism and it is not an "open" differential like many cars have, it feels more like a Limited Slip differential which gives some power even when a wheel slips. Interesting idea. This is the shortest (nose to tail) snowblower I have ever had, easier to store. Some great design simplifications. My older machine, to access the drivebelts, I had to get a wrench in some bad corners to remove the belt cover. This one is four easy Phillips head screws in the top of the chassis. Also no "Neutral" on the gear-shift, because the go-control lever is a better way to get out of drive. There's no throttle, which I miss, but really the only way you should use a snow-blower is wide-open. Any lesser RPM just makes the paddles and gears work harder. And with the easy-start engine, you may as well shut-down instead of putting the engine on idle while you clear toys or talk to the neighbor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang for your buck. I received the snowblower Jan 24 2019. It just took about a half an hour to assemble right out of the box. It started up on the second pull. This is my first snowblower ever and I am quite impressed at the power this blower has. We had received a major storm a few days before I received the machine and the storm dumped about 40cm of snow and then it turned into freezing rain for 10-12 hrs which made a very hard crust at about 4 inches thick. The blower handled it very well. I can't say enough about this blower. Cool.

Internet downloadable assembly instructions were good, but you will never connect the two cables (for the auger engagement and drive levers) unless you remove the levers on the handlebar first. Doing this makes cable connection easy. Instructions referred to a fuel shut but my unit does not have a fuel shutoff valve. The chute worked more smoothly when I gave the bottom of the chute a few squirts of WD-40. Big snowstorm coming tomorrow, but I couldn't wait for new snow and experimented with the old alley snow behind our house. I lowered the skids to keep the shave bar about 1/2" above the ground because the alley is gravel. The electric starter fired up the machine immediately the first time I used it . The power steering works great. This unit wails on snow! Can't wait for the next big snowstorm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not purchase Snowblower worked alright until the roll pins on the impeller broke. Home Depot does NOT carry replacement roll pins. Powersmart website is terrible. You can’t order roll pins online. Owners manual doesn’t even provide the sizing. If you don’t want to spend several days tracking down parts buy another snowblower.
