How tall does this go? Picture doesn’t look super tall.

It's not super tall but puts out plenty of light indoors and out for us. Be careful how you place them so not looking into the very bright light. Extended fully, the top of the lights is about 4.5' tall. The handle is about 8" above the lights.

is it two 20 watt lights or two 40 watt lamps .... hoping two 40 watt lamps!!

It's two 20 Watt fixtures that combine for 40 Watts. I hooked it up to my meter to check and it pulls 45.5 Watts with both lights on and half that with only one one.

is it water proof?

The lamps get hot so I wouldn't use it in the rain....I've not seen anywhere that it's waterproof.

Can you remove one light or do you have to remove both for portability?

The lights are wired together and cannot be disconnected from the main cable by design. You can remove one light from the bar they attach to, but, since you asked about portability, you can't remove one light and use it separate from the other due to the wiring.

So far so good. Have barely used them so far, but they appear to be fairly well designed compared to some others I've used. There are some aspects that could perhaps be improved, such as a slightly heavier gauge of steel for the stands.
