Questions & Answers

does the unit have a pull start cord as well as electric start?

Asked by: scott
Yes this does have a pull start cord. In fact, I use this exclusively and not bother with battery start.

will this generator go to an idle mode when no electirc power is being pulled from it.

Asked by: MT1880
I think few gennys have idle control anymore because it's problematic and doesn't really save that much fuel to be worth it. This one uses less than 1 gallon per hour under load. The RPM stays consistent; when you load it, it uses more fuel to keep up RPMs. When things turn off, it uses less fuel to stay at the same RPM. Since I don't use have the watts it puts out, I've dialed the idle speed down a bit so it doesn't sound like it's on full throttle. After two years sitting (supreme ethanol-free fuel), this year it only needed a tiny shot of starter fluid to spring to life; last year it didn't even need that.

power quality for sensitive equipment

Is power delivered from this generator safe for sensitive equipment such as TV,s, computers etc. Sorry if this a duplicate question. Wasn't sure if I had referred to the correct generator.
Asked by: Larry
I am not sure if this is a pure sine-wave generator. However, I was able to power my cable-modem, wi-fi router, couple of laptops and my big screen TV with the generator for almost three days with no problems. In addition, it ran a modern refrigerator and microwave without issues as well. The only item that did not seem to like this was my UPS that my modem was hooked up to. I bypassed it during the power outage.

The battery is a bit tedious to connect since it had a very small bolt and screw and had to tightened in a spot there wasn't a lot of room. Since I couldn't find a funnel to put the oil in the recessed opening, I improvised and used a meat baster. GREAT THING.... It started right up with the manual recoil since the battery needs to be charged first. *****OH! Did I mention that when I opened the box (had to tear it off), the screws that held the electrical plugs, hour meter, and circuit breakers went flying and the panel was hanging and the plastic case is cracked. There was no way the screws were going to hold it in place so I replaced with larger screws. I contacted Home Depot and they suggested sending it back but it took too long to get it and I needed it NOW. I guess if it doesn't hold I will be sending it back (with the original substandard screws that had obviously stripped out).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's running our whole house as I write this We bought this unit a couple of years ago, and this is the first extended outage during which we've gotten to really test it. It runs our well pump with a 500 ft well, our furnace, all of our lights, a TV, a chest freezer and a refrigerator. I've been cautious in running everything at once, but I'm pretty sure it could handle it. I've run all of the above except for the well pump simultaneously. When we shower, I just turn off a few other items and run the pump and the oil furnace. It's been humming away for about 24 hours straight now since the heavy snow took out the local power in southern New Hampshire, with only breaks for fuel replenishment. The electric start is awesome. You don't have to fight with it, not that you would, since the Honda motor is just about bulletproof. The fuel tank is nice and large. Every time I go out there every few hours to top it off, there's still plenty of fuel in there. I could probably run it all night, but I've been checking on it about every five hours because I'm paranoid like that. The only thing is that it can run a little rough after a cold start, and that's a pretty minor complaint. It usually settles out after a few minutes. Also, if you run something heavy off of it, like a microwave, it can also start the motor surging up and down a bit. Nothing major, but enough to make you want to unplug sensitive items. It doesn't have fancy inverter electronics and it doesn't throttle down at low demand like more expensive, purebred Honda units, but you get the reliability and ruggedness of the Honda motor at a more affordable price. Overall, it's a fantastic value for the money, and the extra dollars from cheaper models buy you a much more robust setup. We're really happy with ours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Honda motor!!!! Great generator! Has the Honda motor and 6800w is more than sufficient to power up my needs. My old generator died last two days of the Sandy power outage so this was my choice after careful deliberations. 8 gal steel gas tank is plenty of storage and the only thing I would have liked to see was a voltage and ampere meter and no fuel gauge. Other than that it has it all including a very easy to use trickle charger for the battery.

Bought it brand new online from The Home Depot, started well but didn't generate any power. Drove it the local Home Depot Store. Should have returned it. They talked me into getting in fixed. 6 week later I got contacted with an estimate of roughly $300 to get it fixed. The unit didn't produce power for a single minute. Not happy. It doesn't deserve a single star, neither does The Home Depot they way they handled it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good generator The assembly took about 30 minutes. Nothing to it. I had the generator delivered to my home. And that delivery was not free. ($50 ) If delivered to my nearest store, it is free, but then the pallet & box have to be handled to get it home, and the generator is pretty heavy. It fired up the first try, and was quite a bit louder that I expected, but was a little quieter than my old generator that dropped a rod ( Tecumseh motor). I am impressed with the overall quality, and glad I have the Honda motor. I like the solid rubber tires. No flats ever! Flat tires on a heavy generator causes it to be very difficult to move. I'll use the new generator for lights, two freezers, a refrigerator, and also to keep our deep water well pumped up in case of an outage. Add in a couple of fans in the house, and it will easily handle all of them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More then what I expected The generator was delivered right to my yard ,I put on the tires ,the pins on the handle and connected the battery .Filled the oil that it came with added the gasoline chocked it pressed the start button ,started right up...Ready for that power fail will run everything I need.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WORKS GREAT This generator is a real workhorse and has been well worth the purchase. We mostly use it when we "rough" camp in the woods. Our only complaint is that it is louder than we desire, but we've built a ventilated box to put over it and that helps a lot.
