I am having trouble getting my 10,000 Tri fuel generator to run on propane.
Asked by: Joe
one reason is the propane valve is not turned on, this vave has a turn between propane and NG. be sure you are in the right mode, propane valve should be verticle and NG horizontle

The use guide states to use the pull cord to start. Is there a difference when using natural gas?

Would I be able to connect/run this generator from my home 500 gallon propane tank through the proppane outlet for my gas grill? Thank you.

it wise to have a seperate line for the generator from your propane sorrce because the generator has a different volume demand then ths grill and home heating line and would be easier to trace any problem if needed

Ihad one problem with the battery, but the company replaced it and shipped a new one at no charge, isn't that great. I am using natural gas so no gasoline and no problem at all except when it is very cold, but I placed a small oil filled heater in the shed that houses the generator because natural gas condense in the sever cold. I am very pleased with this product and you will be too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable, Complete Failure I managed to go through 4 of these units in 10 months. In each case, there were catastrophic motor and carburetion failures. Twice, the motor completely seized. Powerland was excellent in providing replacements, but a generator like this should last hundreds, if not thousands of hours. Complete junk. Buy a reliable brand like Honda.

However I was having problem getting my central air blower to start up. I checked everything and it turns out the problem was the generator was outputting 64 Hz instead of 60 Hz. After researching I was able to adjust the output to 60 Hz by attaching a Kill A Watt Meter to the generator to monitor the frequency and adjust the RPM screw (located at the big red arrow on the attached picture). (EDIT: I compared the Kill A Watt frequency reading to the built in frequency meter on the generator and the numbers are almost the same. So you don't have to buy a Kill A Watt and just use the built in frequency meter to adjust the frequency). After I set it to 60 Hz all my appliances included blower started fine. I have a variable speed central A/C (RLA 16 amps, LRA 14 amps) so it does not need a huge starting amp. I was able to power my central A/C, fridge, freezer, and lights in my house. I also got natural gas to work. As other said sometimes you have to decreased the natural gas going into the generator to get it running smoothly. However I found that after I get it running smoothly on lower natural gas flow I can gradually increase the natural gas level back to full and the generator still runs smoothly. I run a 40 feet 3/4 inch extension hose from the gas meter to the generator which transmits 171,000 BTU and the generator needs 160,000 BTU. If your extension hose is shorter then you may have to permanently limit the gas flow to the generator to get it running smoothly. Also keep in mind natural gas vs gasoline decreases the wattage generated by 15-20%

Factory battery was junk, one phone call and a new one was on its way, set up was easy , feeds whole house, gas heat, gas 50gal hot water , gas cooking, .30" snow and ice storm knocked out power from 6:30am thanksgiving day (Thursday ) until almost midnight Saturday. Lights, heat, cooking , 65" HD tv everything was on like regular power was back . Never skipped a beat for thanksgiving dinner. Even provided hot showers for next door neighbor.averaged 8 to 9 hours run time on a full tank of gasoline. Was very surprised at full load how well it did on gas consumption. Am going to hook it up to my 500 gallon in ground propane tank this summer. No more filling gas tank before bed and jumping out of bed in the morning to refill before it runs dry. All in all very pleased with the product. Thus far it has run 3 or 4 times for more then 24 hours straight providing light, heat, cooking and keeping the food in the refrigerator and freezer from spoiling. We have a food delivery service so at times there is more then $2000.00 worth of food in the freezer. The generator was well worth the investment. I built a small wood enclosure to store and run it in ,next to the garage . Weather proof and some what sound proof, easy access to the drive way for gas refill and close enough to plumb the 500gal propane tank to. Using an exsisting 50amp electric dryer plug to back feed it to the main panel. Turn the main shut off switch at the meter off preventing back feeding to the street side . Then select which circuits in the main panel are not needed to run off the generator . Simple and easy to run the entire house in a power outage . 10,500 watt surge 8500 continuous run , runs my entire house. Just make sure you start and run the generator under load once a month to keep it in stand-by mode.other wise the gen looses it charge across the exciter . The gas motor starts and runs but no ecletricty comes out of the generator Hopes this helps

My central system spikes to 58 amps on starting. Living in New Orleans, generators are needed. I run mine off of natural gas and have not had the starting problems others have complained about. I bought this mainly for hurricane season. My wife complained about the price, but we had a 8 hours power outage this summer, and even though it won't power my central AC, I have portable units. One in the bedroom, and one we move where ever we need it. She stayed in the cool bedroom until the power came back on.

I bought two of these Powerland 10K, Tri-Fuel, generators for daily use on a ranch. I have used the propane, natural gas and regular gas. For the price, no generator can do what this one can do. After three years of heavy use, one generator blew a valve. The other one revved out of control. The throttle springs, plastic engine cooling fan, ignition, voltage regulator, diodes, circuit breaker, and several of the components attached to the engine were damaged. These were replaced under warranty. However, the company moved locations and it took 3 months to get the parts. I would still buy it again, since I am handy and any damage happened the first year of use. Now, I tried to call the manufacturer; the web page is down; and, no one answers the phone or e-mail. It was good while it lasted. If you buy one, get the warranty. Check to see if they are still in business, before you purchase.

Feature wise it's a great unit. The electric start is nice and I really liked the unit. I bought it as a whole house backup generator. I added a quick discount fittings to my house main gas line and to the generator. I added transfer switch and tested the unit on gas. As stated by other reviewers you need as big as gas line 3/4" as you can get to feed the unit. It didn't run as good as it does on gasoline. I had to mess with selection lever to find the best position to run it. I run the unit every now and then to keep it running ready for when I need it. I change the oil as recommended but yesterday while out camping it seized up. I checked the oil and it was still clean and full. No burnt smell or signs of problems. The unit will not move with pull starter or electric start. I keep the unit in my garage with the cover on it and take really good care of the unit. I wanted it to last for a long time. it looks brand new. I am not happy about this at all. It is now a $1200 boat anchor. I hope they stand behind their product because I really liked the unit. Karl
