Questions & Answers

this product has two breakers, what are the amp ratings

Asked by: steve
The unit I have has three breakers, one for 12 volt DC and two for each leg of 120 volt AC. The two 120 volt legs are also exposed on a 240 volt connector (using the same breakers). The nameplate shows 8.5 amp at 12 volt dc and 120/240 at 25/12.5 limited to 3Kw. There is no clear label on the breakers. The 120 volt receptacles are NEMA 5-20R (120 volt at 20 amp) and the 240 volt receptacle is NEMA L14-30 (two 120 legs at 30 amp), plus the cigarette lighter connector and a ground screw. Experimentally, running resistive loads, a single 120 volt leg handles 30 amp, the breaker does not pop and the wires do not heat up over a few minutes. Pressing the load with another 1500 on the same leg does not trip the breaker within a minute. Running a total load of just over 4Kw the engine labors, but manages. Running 4.5 Kw the gas engine bogs down, but keeps running. If you are going to use the unit for a heavy load definitely balance it on the two legs. The wires from the winding are relatively small, feel like 16 gauge.

how much does it weigh

I have 11 acres that I'm always adding new trails and fencing as well as making benches out of the cedar I cut down and would like to purchase a generator to use power tools not battery operated. Since I usually work out there alone I need a generator that I can lift by myself.
Asked by: James
Its nothing you would want to carry for a great distance but it is light enough to load on the truck or into the trailer by yourself.

Can I use it for a flat screen tv, computer and other "sensitive" appliances?

Asked by: MRW81
You can but it's not recommended. Just run things that you wont be to upset about if they get fried. Or you can buy a conditioner.

Customer Reviews

3,000-Watt Gasoline Powered Portable Generator is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 126.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quieter than expected, nice smooth running. I had a decent idea of the size and sound level of this generator, but when i received it, it was actually a tad smaller than i thought, and definately quiter than i expected. After adding oil and gas,i set the choke and gave the rope a pull and it immediately sputtered to life,on the first pull!, cleared up in about 45 seconds and ran very nice and smooth. i ran it for 5 minutes and then applied a 1500 watt heater to it, it ran nice and crisp sounding,i measures voltage at 122 Volts and frequency at 59.6Hz. So far i am really pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value of the small generators You can watch my video review & set-up for this generator at the link below. I got this just for a backup in the event my home power went out. It won't run my house, but it will let the fridge recharge and I can microwave food and use a portable heater if I want. You don't need to run a generator all day to keep your fridge cold. Refrigerators will keep food cold much longer than you think if you keep the door shut. So its best to only open it in the morning and at night. Then recharge the fridge in the morning and at night. That way you are saving a lot of gasoline if there is an emergency. If you have watched any natural disaster news reports, you know gas is always at a premium. It's not very loud, as far as generators go. I had a few questions and the phone number provided in the manual was a big help. They picked up right away and the guy on the phone was super helpful. So the company is there if you need them. These do go on sale from time to time so if you are not ready to buy, just keep an eye out. But at the same time, don't put it off too long, because you never know when you will need it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought this based on other reviewers and am very satisfied Started up in about 4 pulls. I think this may have been because how we put the oil in. But once it started it took about 3 minutes and it was purring perfectly. Didn't fill the gas gauge so I can't say whether or not it displays the correct amount, because I read some other people said that there gauge was showing different from what they had put in. Applied half a load with a 1500 watt heater and the generator didn't hardly budge. Very happy for the price. Seems like it's built well too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good buy I bought this to replace a Champion 5500 that I was beginning to have problems with after 10 years of use. This generator is small enough to load and unload by myself and is fairly good on fuel. I use it for night fishing with 2500W of lights and to run the cabin at the deer camp. We just got back from a 7 day trip to the camp where this little guy was not turned off 1 time and it ran like a champ for the entire 170 hours that we were there. Always starts on the first pull and is more than capable of running everything I need it to. I managed to get this guy on sale for $199 In Nov 2012 and am glad I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great unit for emergencies. Picked this unit up in July when HD had them on a "Special Buy". Got a good workout during Sandy. Ran the upstairs refrig, the bsmt freezer, an old 35 Inch TV along with cable modem and box as well as some lights. Surprisingly quiet. Was even more impressed with the fuel consumption. (I ran it about 15 hours a day with half hour rest at refueling periods). Warning. Do not use this on expensive electronics as most generators do not provide "clean power" (lots of white noise]. OK for motors and lights. Also a great way to fry the $1200.00 large screen TV or computer. Use the $200 Walmart TV you could stand to loose. Charge your laptop battery with it, than use your computer when unplugged. After Irene I saw a ton of flat screen TV's up the transfer station. So the warning is real. Again. A great little unit. Helps to keep life comfortable. You can unplug the fridge to run the coffee maker. And other trade offs. Just use it wisely. Push it too hard and your standing in the dark Starts easy. No more that 4 pulls. Fuel gauge isn't exact but its functional. Best $237 ever spent. I add marine fuel stabilizer before shutting down. And I make it a point to run the machine 20 minutes or so every 3 months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy so far!! We had a monster of a generator, needed to go smaller so us gals could handle it...well this was a great purchase, two "girls" put it together easily. AND it fired right up, first pull, nice and quiet to...haven't had a snow storm to try it running the fridge and freezer but what we did try it ran without a hiccup.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The generator is a little noisy but does do the job I read the reviews from this web site and decided to make the purchase of the 3000 watt portable generator. On a recent camping trip I ran the generator off and on periodically for 3 days without any problems. When you walked around the camp site you could hear a noticeable difference in the sound quality between trailers being powered by a Honda generator and ours. But for the difference in price and how many times a year that we might run a temporary generator this unit worked extremely well when we needed it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Generator, Great Value Bought 2 of these for my kids homes. When I saw the price HD had on these it was a no Brainer. They didn't need anything too big because they are on Municipal water so 3000 watts was more than enough. At first I was leery because of the no brand name engine but that was quickly forgotten when I saw the construction, started on first pull, not a puff of smoke, idle steadiness & quietness! Just put a splash of fuel in because I didn't want to have fuel left in after testing but it ran for an hour with that splash with a light load. The pull start is very easy, not like them older generators that ripped your arm out. Tested voltages & a nice steady 118v on both legs even when turning loads on & off. Even though I have a bigger unit for my home since I have a deep well I should have bought one for myself since this will run a long time on little fuel. Comes with everything you need except Fuel & Oil. I guess they don't provide the Oil since you have to use the correct weight for your climate but 20 oz. of 10W30 will work in most climates in the USA. Comes with funnel & hose for easy oil installation & tools to remove the shipping brace from the engine to the frame. Has no wheels but it's not to heavy. I put one of them on a small cheap dolly for my daughter, worked great. Has rubber feet which absorb lots of the vibration & they don't vibrate or shake much at all. Also has an Automotive type 12volt accessory socket for car chargers for phones & such! This is great generator even at the normal price but the price HD had on it was a great deal.
