Questions & Answers

Decibels on this generator

Asked by Duane July 10, 2020

Because there is no industry standard way to measure sound output on portable products it makes it very hard to compare brand to brand. Generac does not list the specific decibel level for our portable products for this reason. This is an open engine similar to a lawn mower so it does not run as quiet as our automatic home standby generators, is comparable if not quieter than most other brands.

How quiet is this machine?

Asked by Fisher May 1, 2019

its comparable to a gas lawnmower at idle or minimal RPMs. this generator is great for a construction work site but not camping. Id say its moderately noisy. It is not the loudest generator Ive had.

Will this generator run Lincoln arc on 240?

Asked by Jarhead September 26, 2018

Yes, this item will run in Lincoln arc on 240.

If you use it 24hours a. Day and it up the piston rings where do you order new ones or a rebuild kit

Asked by Herb March 24, 2018

You can order online, or we recommend working with an authorized Generac dealer as they will be better able to assist you. If you need assistance finding a local dealer, we recommend using our dealer locator found here: http

What is the significance of alert p25

We recommend contacting our customer support team at 888-436-3722 as they will be better able to assist you.

Do they make this model in a automatic start by any chance.

Asked by Pete November 26, 2017

Powermate's CX3500 portable generator features manual start capabilities; automatic start is not available.

Will it run a small ac unit or a small inferred heater

Asked by Steve November 24, 2017

Powermate's CX3500 portable generator features an AC output rating of 3500 watts, one 120V 20A 5-20R Duplex receptacle and one 12V DC outlet. We recommend ensuring any of the loads you would like to connect to the unit not exceed the generator's output ratings or the amperage capacity of the unit's duplex receptacle. To confirm the power output requirements of your desired loads, we would recommend contacting the manufacturer of each product.

What's the dB for this model? Home Depot is usually pretty good about listing operational volume ...

Asked by InfoSeeker November 23, 2017

Other companies list the db rating under the specs. This answer sounds like this gen is louder than other brands in its class. If not, the question would have actually been answered because you know the company knows the db of their own machine. It may or may not be a great gen and nobody expects it to be as quiet as an inverter but Sorry I wouldn't buy one because they are hiding something from possible customers.

does it come fully assembled

Asked by hunter November 16, 2017

Assembly is required for this model.

who make the engine

Asked by bob July 4, 2017

Powermate's 3500-watt CX Series portable generator is powered by a Powermate engine.

Nice, do like it
Nice, do like it. This is a very good generator. After two days of this thing sitting around, I finally put the oil in it and fired it up. Well I was not surprised that it was moderately noisy, just below the output of a lawnmower.Putting it together was not difficult, I had to just attach two plastic wheels, and two 'feet resting pads'(sorry don't know what else to call them). Neither was difficult. I would say the most pain in putting it together was adding the oil... Now that's something. It rolls around easily and the handle sure helps. I do like the curved bars, part of the frame around both the upper and lower outside, it sure will help lifting it out of my truck. It is portable but not that light. As long as it works well I don't really care about the weight. I got this generator for Landscaping work to run demo hammers and lighting. At home I can use it as an emergency power backup. It ran just fine and it can power all the things I want it too. This is a solid generator and I do recommend it.

My God in heaven. What an absolute piece of total garbage. Bought it, worked great. 1st power outage, it ran well and did the job for about 12 hours of use. Next outage was 9 months later - the fuel petcock had literally clogged itself solid with oxidation from the metal, and the cheap gasket deteriorating. Went without a generator for that storm. Bought a new petcock, installed, no dice. The crap that accumulated in the bowl was transferred to the carb. Not having the time to rebuild a $19 carburetor, I bought a new one and installed it. It ran again. Next storm - with the help of half a can of ether, I got the piece of crap running again, and it muscled through the 16 hours without power. Next outage was about 10 months later. No dice - wouldn't even try to kick. Cleaned the petcock out again, cleaned the carb out again, new spark plug, replaced the fuel line because after only a total of 28 hours of use, the line cracked and crumbled to pieces when I took it off. Nothing. The next thing I do with this absolute assemblage of inferior materials, China's "best" engineering, and disposable components, is to fill the tank with gas, wheel it out onto the 200 meter range, and light it up with some tracers... that will be THE most benefit I will have gotten from this pathetic little toy. Home Depot is DEAD to me. They sell junk at a reasonable price, discontinue it after a season or two, and then claim "no responsibility" because they don't carry it anymore. Pretty much their M.O. on all tools and equipment.
