Quiet, fuel efficient beauty!
My wife and kids said "Dad you don't need another generator!". I'm glad I didn't listen. I'll be using this for both portable power around the yard and also to keep our refrigerator and a few lights on during power outages. This unit holds 1.2 gallons of gas, rated to run 10.75 hours (at 25% load). My larger Powermate generator would require at least 8 gallons of gas for that same runtime. During multi-day power outages, I'll be using both products to meet my power needs and minimize gasoline consumption. Powermate brand is owned by Generac and for consumer use this generator has 3 year warranty (parts), 1 year (parts and labor). Be ready - get one!

This would have been the one I would have purchased...
Recently, I received an email, alerting me that a Home Depot "Seeds" campaign was open. I opened the email and went to the 'Dashboard" page and started to go through the latest list of items available. I went through page after page until I saw a Powermate 2000-Watt Generator. If I would have had one of these years ago, it would have saved me at least $500 dollars in spoiled and thawed food, when my most recent freezer failed and getting a fast replacement was near impossible. I picked that item from the list, immediately and confirmed, I then went through the rest of the list and found a couple more items worthwhile and chose them. When the Powermate unit arrived, I dragged it into the garage and set it up on a sturdy table so I could work on it. First things first, read the instructions before you embarrass yourself and do something stupid. The instructions were worth it and pointed out things I might have skipped over... the instructions were very professionally written, and I used that as a checklist. As a retired engineer, I look for good documentation and the manual was a good reference of what one should look like.... Kudos! The startup procedure for the motor was great, it started flawlessly and when slightly warm I switched from Choke to Run. The motor was extremely quiet and very fuel efficient and according to the manual "1.18 gallons of fuel will produce 10.75 hours of service"... excellent! Now, I must put on my retired engineer's hat for a little while and address the two Elephants in the room. Looking through the instructions, I noted a component that had me puzzled. It was called a DC Receptacle (battery charger) on page 5, in the manual. First, there was no manufacturer's cable for that component in the box (I checked). It was a component that had no useful purpose as far as I could see with no manufacturer's cable available, Second, Powermate provided a cable for charging a battery with a cable that did not fit in any receptacle in the unit. There again, I looked. I even took the only access panel off again and checked it thoroughly for a 12VDC lighter, female socket. There was none. Now I have a cable included by the manufacturer, that "for all purposes, serves no purpose", because there is no receptacle for it, in the unit. Also, in the manual section on page 12 "Charging a 12VDC Battery" it specifies for you to plug the lighter plug accessory cable into the "Battery Charger Output Jack", which is a 12VDC "V" shaped receptacle on the face of the generator... that will not work. Also, below the illustration on page 12 they clearly identify the "V" shaped receptacle as a Battery Charger "Input Jack", not Battery Charger "Output Jack". Mixed identifiers being stated and misapplied in a manual are intrinsically wrong and should be corrected, immediately. Also included in the package was a spark plug wrench and a #2 Philips screwdriver. My plans to use the Powermate generator will remain as intended for supplemental power in my shed as needed and for emergency power for my house as needed. I'm extremely happy that I was able to select this exceptional product as part of the Home Depot "Seeds" program. Reviewing It was a terrific personal project for me and helped me stimulate unused brain cells, too.... it all helps!

Powermate PM2000i 2,000-Watt Manual-Start Gasoline Powered Inverter Generator, 50 ST/CSA – Power ...
Powermate PM2000i 2,000-Watt Manual-Start Gasoline Powered Inverter Generator, 50 ST/CSA – Power outages are getting longer and more frequent the last several years. Friends and relatives in other parts of the state and country have gone without power for 5 days or more following storms. We own a larger capacity generator, but during the summer if our power is off, we may not need more than a kilowatt, give or take a little. The Powermate is a nice size for most of our needs. It can supply 1700 watts continuously; enough for LED lighting, TV, small appliances (mini-fridge, microwave oven, coffee maker), chargers and so on. Depending on the size and wattage, it may power a full-size refrigerator or freezer. Of course, not all of these devices can be used simultaneously. The generator also weighs less 50 pounds and is easy to move or transport. This is an inverter generator, meaning it generates AC power which is converted to DC then inverted back to AC with a very clean sine wave and better frequency which is good for electronics and motors. After unboxing, I followed the instructions; filling the tank with gasoline and the engine with the included motor oil. One pull of the starter rope and it started. The generator is easy to use; the control panel has standard 120V AC outlets, a 12V DC outlet, circuit breakers and LED indicators for low oil, overload and normal operation. When running, it is very quiet and efficient. I plugged in a circular saw and started it a few times without cutting anything. The running saw approaches the Powermate’s continuous load limit; the generator performed great and was very responsive to the change in load.

This is a great generator for tailgating and camping. 2000 watts starting power/ 1700 watts running power. You should calculate your wattage needs before buying but if you need less than 1700 for your application it’s perfect. Light for a generator- Weighs 47 lbs. Runs at super quite (for a generator) 78-80 decibels. Uses regular gasoline. Super easy pull start with a single position choke/cold start knob. I could see this being Great for tailgating, camping, construction projects, small bounce houses, etc. Runs for 11 hours on a full tank of gas when drawing 500 watts.

I live on a horse ranch in the mountains of Northern California. In this remote area we lose power frequently. I have a big generator that I use for the house but I have never had a separate generator to power the barn area. Without power at the barn, which is on a separate agricultural meter, I cannot pump water. This is OK for a couple of days but then I start running low. This little generator is perfect for the small load at the barn. It is very quiet and starts on the first or second pull. It is light enough to be easily carried around and placed where you need it. After I got it going at the barn I am so impressed that I may end up using it for the house instead of my bigger generator. Not only is it quiet but it only sips about a tenth of a gallon per hour at 25% load. The oil for the generator was even included. There are a couple of minor things that would make it better. With this generator you have to remove two screws and pull loose the side panel to check the oil. It would be more convenient if there was a door or something that made it easier to access the oil filler. Since you shouldn’t add fuel to a generator when it is running I wish this unit had a fuel gauge built into the gas cap. The last kind of strange thing is that it was shipped with a “charge cord” so that you can charge a 12 volt battery when it is running. The cord that was shipped had alligator clips on one end and a cigar lighter plug on the other. The 12 volt outlet on the machine has the standard two angled blades to plug into. There is no way to use the charge cord. I don’t really mind since I don’t intend to charge a battery.

quiet portable performance, and reasonably efficient to boot. there is alot going for this small generator. for one it is from my research a rebrand of the generac 1200i model which is good because that model was well received and it is a trusted brand. even the parts and customer support reference generac. one of the main differences though is the lack of USB ports or the ability to turn the rpm management on or off. this models the rpm management, which is based on electrical load, is always on. the USB ports isnt a big deal, most of us have too many plug in chargers anyway and the last thing i need in a long term emergency is my phone. food and water however are essential. the unit comes assembled and ready to go save for oil and gas. the box says it includes oil, but the owners manual says you provide the oil. luckily i had some suitable 10w30 on hand. this is the only 4 cycle motor i have ever gotten that didn't include oil of any kind. so be aware that yours might not come with oil either and the manual calls for a general 10w30 oil. it took a bit of pulling to get it going being the first start up but it ran fine and i was surprised at how quiet it idles. maybe a moderate conversation level loud. i then let it idle for a couple hours then put it on an 800 watt load for a couple more hours to break in then i changed the oil. now it is ready to go. because of a recent winter storm the overnight lows were around 13 degrees and tested starting it in the cold. it took several yanks but she started just fine. for something the size of a carry on bag that even a child could carry but can power a refrigerator and some essentials it is quite the machine.

My new Powermate PM1200 inverter arrived well packed and in perfect condition. I read the owners manual, added oil and fuel and fired her up. It is the quietest motor I've ever heard. I plugged a big AC grinder and it worked great. It has a .8 gallon fuel tank. It weighs about 30 lbs. The pull start is easy. I'm very satisfied. I have a bigger generator, but this little guy will come in handy for more than just power outages.

Dont expect the world from this generator. It is extremely quiet and relatively light which is a great factor. The downside of this generator is it is really not intended for what I wanted to use it for. It's good for tailgating and camping for small electronics but doesn't have the capability of running some tools. I was hoping to take it to the job sight to run a compressor or circular saw but the outlet cant handle it. The safety kicks off almost immediately so that stinks. So if you want to run a tv, lights , etc it will work just not what I was hoping for. The directions are relatively clear however a completely stupid placement of the oil plug. No where in the directions does it say where it is. You actually have to take apart a panel to access the oil plug via a acrew to add the oil. So best bet would be to not only ensure you have enough oil before taking it with you but also be sure to keep a Phillips on hand. I was going crazy trying to find out where to add. Overall decent product but lacking in power since the outlet doesn't even handle 9amps.
