Q:We accidentally used this Preserva Wood for our INTERIOR engineered hardwood floors. Are we going to be ok?
by|Aug 27, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Our instructions indicate that if drops of water are quickly and easily absorbed, then the stain will too. Your interior engineered hardwood floors are not absorbent and would not pass that test. You probably have a film of Preserva Wood sitting on the top of your floors, which might be tacky or at least soft. You should attempt to remove the Preserva Wood, however you will need to consult with the flooring manufacturer to determine a safe method of removal for our product. Your flooring manufacturer can contact us directly if they need more information about our stain.

Q:can i paint over the top of this product with latex paint?
    by|Jun 14, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  No. A water based latex paint will not bond properly to wood stained with our oil based stain.

Q:Our cedar fence is treated with Preserva Wood Penetrating Oil and Sealer, color Cedar. I like to restain the fence so it gets the white color without having to strip the existing stain. Which stain product can I use for this?
      by|May 25, 2024
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  We suggest you clean the fence with a detergent based cleaner and re-treat with Preserva Wood. You do not need to strip with Preserva Wood, just clean and re-treat. You can use the Cedar tint again, if you are looking to add color to the fence, or you can use our Clear oil, if you don't want to add any color to the wood.

Q:It has been 3 weeks and still very sticky...how long should this take to dry?
        by|Apr 26, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  "Sticky" is an indication of over-application. More oil was applied than the wood could absorb, so the oil dried on the surface of the wood and created a shiny/tacky surface. The stain is dry and cured within 48 hours. Contact us at info@preservaproducts.com for a simple fix.

Beautiful stain that brings out the natural color in the wood - light for certain cedar planks and a darker red/tan for others. Very easy to apply with a spray gun. We live in a very moist climate so the jury's out about how well an oil based stands up to the elements.

          Single coat only
The product was very easy to apply and I followed the directions closely - applying only one coat. The finish is not shiny; it looks more like a stain. The Ranchline redwood bench that I used this on is 35 years old, and had multiple layers of different redwood stains which I removed. So far, as much as I can tell after only a few weeks, the wood is ok. After several light rains the water doesn't bead up, but it also doesn't look like the water is penetrating the wood and causing water marks. Time will tell.

perfect for my shou sugi ban application. The stuff soaks deep into wood and dries very slowly and is not sticky. I could apply it to a new piece of shiplap -- or simply the freshly cuts ends, etc -- last minute and install it in place without mess. Bought a good quality brush, and after leaving it wet for as much as a week in a plastic bag, with one dip in new batch of preserva the brush would become soft again and ready to go. This stuff is unusual and a pleasure to put on. Apply thicker initially to ensure a good soak, then brush out smooth to remove any puddling, etc. It needs 24+ hours to dry completely, but as I say it is manipulatable very soon after application...

I'm OCD when it comes to preparing surfaces for stain, paint or other coverings. After removing tannins grime and dirt from my fence surfaces I used a paint stripper to remove what remained of the old finishes. After 24-48 hours of drying time I sanded with 60 grit sanding discs and belts using an orbital and belt sander. The resulting clean and properly prepped fencing took the stain and sealer easily with a brush. It sprinkled a little following application but by that time the wood had absorb the oil/stain and the few water droplets simply fell off. I love the look of a clear finish over redwood but the pigments in the other products help to protect from UV damage. In Utah a clear finish will last one year, a semi transparent two to three years.

The product applies great and is overall a good product. I was able to do 1600+ sqft of fencing in less than a day. Works really well with using a pump sprayer and paint brush the runs. I had my wife go behind me with a paint brush. It says you only need to do 1 coat but I did have to go back and touch up the ares where the knots on the wood were because they soaked up more stain and left it looking slightly blotchy. Check the pictures out.
