Will it pit new cement?

Asked by: Laura
Yes it will. I followed the directions and ended up with $8000 in damage. Scottwood Industries will shuffle you off to CNA, their insurance partner, who will not pay any claim regarless of the facts. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!

Is it pet friendly?

I do not want to put any-thing out that harms my pet or my neighbors.
Asked by: diane
I believe this product is pet friendly since it does not leave any type of hard particles like rock salt. I would double check to make sure but again I do believe it is pet friendly as far as walking on it since it dries clear.

I SEE IT DOESNT STAIN

I see in the description it don't stain concrete or asphalt, Will it eat away at the asphalt or hurt it in anyway? I know it wont stain it. Just want to know so I can decide if it is what I want to use. Thanks.
Asked by: joe
You are correct. This leaves no stains and it also doesn't leave any particles that can get tracked into your house. Just remember one thing, do not store in high temperatures or it will be useless.

Should I use before or after the ground ices?

Just trying to figure out if I need to lay this down before the ground ices?
Asked by: DB
I used it both times, just make sure that when used after the ice storm that you clear loose snow from the surface first, then sprinkle the driveway heat onto the ice. For best results, be sure to sprinkle the driveway heat where ice just may be starting to form and if possible get surfaces that may be covered with ice that you know of as well. Hills are definitely the first areas to treat regularly as it will help traction for your automobiles to enter and exit your driveway safely.

I put some down on a patch of ice for test purporses and within minutes I was able to shovel the ice patch away leaving a non-slippery surface, both on the concrete and as-fault portions of the driveway. I just put more down on the hill portion and it appears that the areas where the driveway heat was sprinkled is drying up to eliminate ice build up. Highly recommend this product. A+++++++++++

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Prestone Ice Melt This product is the most wonderful product on the market. You no sooner put it down on your concrete and ice and snow are melted. I also use it on my decks and I have not noticed any damage to wood products. Also, I love not having it tracked into my home as it melts immediately after I put it down. A little goes a long way. Last year my neighbor thought he was doing me a favor by spreading salt on my driveway and patios which created a mess on all of my carpets. I didn't think I would ever get it out of my house. I highly recommend this product. Wonderful!!.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work This stuff sucks. It doesn't work. I get home late from work and leave early for work so my snow has melted and refrozen by the time I get home from work. I throw down ice melt to prevent falling when I leave for work in the early hours. This stuff just sits on the ice. I ended up using the cheap bag of ice melt which melted the ice while this stuff was still on the ground in the pellets with ice under it in the morning. Where the cheap ice melt was put down was disolved and no ice where it was placed.

My concrete is sealed and maintained and I followed the directions precisely. I selectively used this product where my driveway and sidewalk do not get sun and those exact places are flaking and crumbling now. No other areas showed any signs of damage, just where this product was used. To make matters worse, Scottswood Industries that makes this product will not reimburse me for any of the damage. All they do when I inquire about this is send a form letter suggesting that I did not follow instructions (not true), that my concrete was the problem (not true), and that the label on the product has ample warnings of what can happen (not true). I encourage everyone to avoid using this product and use rock salt or something much safer.

I was busy paying to the label about it's 'melt ability' and forgot to look for something that was also safe for concrete. I take pride in my walk way which is now pitted including my concrete steps to the front door. Don't use if you are concerned about pitting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works really well if you put enough on Don't believe anyone. This stuff works really well. You need a lot less of this stuff than rock salt; but yes if you sparingly spread it, it will not work as well, so don't expect miracles if you don't put enough down. But you still don't have to put as much as rock salt .
