I have 3 identical wrought iron planters with fairly wide openings between rails that I need to line. They are narrower on bottom length than they are towards the top creating a fan type shape. The base length is 15" and the length at the top widens to 22". The width is 15" . Would this coco roll work to create a liner for these planters and if so, how many would I need?
Asked by: eloise
Yes, you could use this. Depending on the height of the planters you may need upto 2 rolls.

I have a planter that is 24h x 54L x 8x (inches)

Will this product work to line my large planter box? Does the plaster liner only cover a certain area or is it throughout the entire square footage? Also will I need to put holes in the bottom for drainage?
Asked by: Jamen
The line should cover the bottom of the planter with an inch or two up the sides. If necessary, the liner can be cut to fit smaller or larger planter bottoms. If you put holes in the planter's bottom do not make them too large where the water runs out quickly. The liner needs time to soak up the water. If you do not put holes in the planter check the soil for moistness before adding more water so the roots don't rot. You can think of the Coco Roll like shelf / drawer liner, the roll is basically flat when unrolled. Your planter is 54 inches long and 8 inches wide. The Coco Roll's width is 2 1/2 times wider than needed. Cutting the roll in half length-wise would give you two coco liners 40 in. x 10 in. Wide enough to give an inch up each side. Put one of the halves in your planter then using the second piece cut a length to finish lining the bottom. An inch or two overlap would be fine.

Hi, I neglected to provide you the height of my 3 wrought iron planters in my prior question...the height is 9" . To summarize the overall dimensions are 15" base length, 22" top length, 12" width. Based on this additional dimension, are there any changes or updates to your prior answer? If I understood your answer correctly you are currently recommending 2.5 rolls per planter or a total of 8 rolls to cover the entire project for all 3 planters? Thanks in advance and my apologies for leaving out the height in my original posting.
Asked by: eloise
Yes that sounds about right according to eh measurements. Get 8 rolls. You can always take back what you don’t use.

Will it keep soil from escaping onto the deck?

I planned on using it to line a wooden slat planter
Asked by: Happycamper
Yes, as long as you overlap any joints well the soil should not escape.

40 in. L x 20 in. W AquaSav Coco Roll is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price for a scarce item - EXCELLENT SERVICE!! : ) The only place I could find this type of coco liner was at Home Depot. The price was far less than anything in the any store anywhere. It did not take very long for it to come to the store where I picked it up (no shipping charge) Then, to top it all off - - the store gave me a gift bag filled with items I could use at my new house - worth about $40 - just for buying online. When I installed the coco-liner in my window frame I found the fit to be perfect with only a little adjusting by cutting off the excess. It holds moisture and my plants just love it - -but not as much as I love having a window box full of flowers outside my new kitchen window. Thank you so much Home Depot!! : )

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My tomatoes are really liking this I cut this and placed it in the bottom of redwood planters http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hollis-Wood-Products-22-in-Square-Redwood-Planter-Box-12028/204371110. I transplanted some tomato seedlings to the planters and they are growing beautifully. It is obvious the coco roll is holding onto more moisture as I don't have to water as often (I live in So Cal where it is hot and dry). Very pleased with this and now I wish I had put it in the bottom of all my containers!

It touted that it had a “latex” inner layer to help hold some residual moisture for plants but was just some loose plastic sheeting. Whole material was hard to fold and cut. Too much wasted material. Will stick with prepared bowls from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good mulch This makes for a good alternative to wood chip mulch for potted plants. Take an empty pot, turn it over and trace the circumstance on the rolled out coco roll. Cut with a shears, pot the plant and place the coco roll on top of soil. A straight cut to the center allows for the plant.
