A: Frost Free hose hydrants, such as this one, are not subject to the rules regulating the presence of lead in the wet surfaces of the water path. They are exempt because they are not categorized as faucets. Therefore hose hydrants are not certified or claimed to be “lead free”. I am unaware of any residential frost free hydrants or hoses that are. Therefore, because these products are not certified to be lead free; I would suggest you assume they do contain lead. And that you do not dispense drinking water from them.
A: If you scroll down the Home Depot product listing page you will come to a section entitled Product Details. There you fill find PDF’s of the product. If you open the one entitled measurement guide it indicates the measurement from the back of the flange to the tip of treads to be 10 ¾”. The threaded section measures ¾”. Therefore if you subtract the ¾” from the 10 ¾” you get 10”. We call this 10” figure the insertion depth and that is the industry standard when describing frost free hydrants.
