About This Product
Secure your home or office doors with additional security with the U 9907 Chain Door Guard. This door chain lock is a security locking device for doors, allowing a door to be slightly opened to allow safe viewing and ventilation. It can also be placed out of reach of children, high on a door, so they cannot open the door themselves and enter or exit into dangerous areas.This chain door guard is constructed of extruded brass with a solid brass finish and a 6 inch, 8-link welded steel chain. It's strong and durable, sure to last, and installation is quick and easy. All installation fasteners are included, and it can be used on a variety of door types and can be placed over or beside door casing.When this chain door guard is fully assembled, and engaged from base to keeper, the chain will extend to 4-5/8 inch. To determine the maximum distance the chain door guard secures a door for safe viewing or ventilation, subtract the thickness of the door from 4-5/8 inch (approx. 3 inch). The smaller chain-holder base measures 3/4 inch wide, and the wider chain lock keeper measures 3-5/16 inch long; both with a height of 2 inch.

Is it proper to mount the slide plate sideways, NEXT to the primary Door window ?
Not sure if it makes sense to put the “Slide Plate” near a window, (broken by intruders), through which their hands could fit through to un-slide the bolted chain.

Can the guard be placed vertically instead of horizontally?
I have not used it vertical but it should work as long as the parts are placed close enough to each other so it can go on and off and the large opening on the end of the slot is on the top.

Gravity / the weight of the chain would make the chain drop down the slot. It is a choice you would have to make. Use your own discretion.

This Defender Security U 11315 Swing Bar Door Guard will increase peace of mind when answering the door by allowing the door to be cracked open slightly for viewing. When engaged, a ball on the keeper interlocks with the bar lock and prevents an intruder from pushing their way through. We have improved upon the standard door guard design and added an innovative backup thumb turn security lock that blocks the release tool from disengaging the door guard latch. In cases of emergency, hotel security or emergency crews can pop the thumb turn off of the unit by applying approximately 100 lbs. of force to the door. (Note that 100 lbs. of force is much greater than a simple kick in, so the emergency release feature does not compromise your security.) Additionally, after the thumb turn lock breaks away, the unit still operates as a traditional swing bar door lock and a specially designed Anti-Lockout emergency access tool is required to swing the door guard out of place. To help prevent forced entry into your home, it is always a good idea to engage the backup thumb turn lock whenever you are not actively using your door.
