Q:Description differs, is it 1/2 or 9/16 inch?

Answer This Question
A: 9/16 drill bit is too small. I used custom made drill bit, tapered & a round file ( I drilled a little on the outside & then a little on the inside after a small PILOT HOLE. I do NOT recommend this by a DIY/amateur on an expensive front door because a minor error is costly & forever. Remember that some wooden doors are several plies thick glued together. It performs as advertised and the view is perfect for some distance on a sunny day (over 200 feet from home to road).

Q:Has anyone installed this in a steel door? If so, how hard was it to drill?

Answer This Question
A: I used a titanium bit and foolishly skipped drilling a pilot hole. The viewer so works fine. The wide angle is impressive. Go slow and slowly increase your bit size jn/IL you get to the recommended size bit from the instructions. To sum up, yes you can drill a steel door, but if you need to use different size bit pilot holes to get up to the right diameter for the peep hole install.

A: We installed this in our steel door. While it wasn’t necessarily difficult, it helps to have a higher powered drill.

A: Sorry wish I could help, I purchased this as a replacement for an existing one I already had but in a different finish. Still don't think it would be difficult at all to drill as long as you use the right hole saw on the material your door is made of.

A: It is easy to install in a metal door. Make sure you use the proper sized bit and make sure you keep the bit 90 degrees to the door face so the hole is straight through (or very close to it). It will help to make a starting point with a punch, so the bit won't wander. There is no need for a starter hole - just a small punch point to catch the bit. As with all drilling use a sharp bit and don't force it - let the bit do the work. Of all things you will do this is pretty easy

Nice View
Not a bad viewer installing for the first time. It helps to watch the install video in addition to reading the instructions. Its also a good idea to clean the lens prior and after installing.

The viewer offers great visibility in a front entry door, even behind a glass storm door. A 9/16' bit is required to have it properly mounted. The instructions were very easy to follow. I used a 1/8" pilot bit with masking tape to mark the drill depth so it doesn't exceed the opposite side. First installation attempt resulted with an unevenness up against the door. After enlarging the hope a bit, the final outcome was very satisfactory.

Works good and super easy to install. Just drill a hole, but not too high, keeping in mind that shorter people need to be able to use it too. Then just screw it together.
