Questions & Answers

can this peep hole be installed in a fiberglass entry door?

I would have it professionally installed if it can be done on a fiberglass door.
Asked by: shimmeringgreen
Yes, I installed a prism viewer in my fiberglass door. Keep in mind -- before you drill the hole -- that there is nothing else on the market that will replace it if you don't like it (because of the large hole size). Look through the viewer before you install it to see if you're satisfied with the image, I was very dissatisfied with mine after installation. Same type different brand, but both of them project a prism reflection onto a diffusion screen on the inside of the door.

Hi, I installed it but I don't see anything when looking thru the round or prism side. Is the lens suppose to be clouded? I tried adding light, still just a faint level of light but still no clear view. Not sure what to do as this was installed in solid wood door on a commercial site. Now have a 1 3/4inch hole in door. Not happy with this product at this time.
Asked by: Doc
You need to stand back and look through it. Not like a traditional peep hole. My dad and daughter both have one and they are great. You can see the whole porch.

Would a screen door severely obstruct the viewing area? I would think that if the viewing area was well lit at night, there would only be minor obstruction. Any ideas?
Asked by: Jon
It wasn't a minor obstruction on mine. Installation of a screen door was the complete end of my viewer's usefulness, except at night when my motion-sensing porch light would light up... then I could at least and I could see the light come on in the viewer. I wound up buying a security camera to see who was actually at the door. I suppose that the type of screen material in the door would make some kind of difference, or maybe not.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Cannot see anything through it at night, even with porch light on you cannot see. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a peep hole if you can't use it! Now I have big hole in my door.....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great viewer This peep hole viewer is great. As advertised, I do not have to be right up against the door to see, in fact the view is better standing 3 feet to 5 feet back from the door! If you know how to use a drill and have a hole saw bit it easy enough to install. I would have given it a 5 out 5 in the field of vision was wider (I think this use a standard 160 degree field of view). As it stands I do have blind spots but made it a house rule if you can't see the person at the door don't open the door.

It's good for daylight. But once it gets dark out you can't see a thing-not even with the porch light on. I can't return it now that there's a 2 inch hole in the door. I called the manufacturer. I was told to buy a new door, or fill the hole. If you only need it to see during the day, it's good. But if you also need it for the evenings, don't waste your money.
