Lock does not fit most widely used community mailboxes
This lock does not properly fit the neighborhood group mailboxes approved by the USPS. The lock will fit in the hole of the door, but none of the pawls provided will work in the mating slot. I had to use the old pawl, but this wouldn't close enough to remove the key because of the dimensional differences between the old and new locks. If you notice that all of the pawls provided with the lock do not have the hook on the end of the pawl. Also, none of them are deep enough to engage in the mating slot. I had to file the old pawl down so the lock could be turned enough to release the key.

This product does the job, but it is a bit on the flimsy side. It just fit the opening, and I noticed that the part that swings to "lock" the mailbox (the four parts in the bottom of the picture) was less substantive than what was there before. As such, I used the former part. The lock is holding up so far, but initially I had to jimmy the key in-either one-to get it in and to be able to turn it. It took several times the first go-around, and I almost gave up. Perhaps putting some lubricant in initially would help. It's working better now, the only thing I've noticed the lock has turned slightly left rather than staying vertically, but that could be the installer's fault! If you can find something more solid-but you'd have to figure it out by looking through the packaging, get it.

Lock didn't come with the right cam for my box, but was compatible with the old locks cam, so it was easy to transfer it over.

Somewhere in the directions it should say that "the key can only be removed when the it is locked." It won't come out when it is unlocked. That was confusing and took me more time. I guess because people are accustomed to taking their key out of their home doors. Easy to install once I realized the above and works fine. After thought, there is really no reason to remove key when taking mail from box.
