Product Overview

ProFlex 16 ft. "P" Profile Marine Dock Edging protects docks and boats from damage while docked. Manufactured from durable, marine-grade flexible PVC, the P-shaped edging is engineered for horizontal installations on commercial or private boat docks. ProFlex Marine Dock Edging products contain UV inhibitors and will not crack, rot or deteriorate when exposed to sun or temperature extremes and are unaffected by oil, gasoline or saltwater. Colored black throughout the material, unlike competitive "skin coated" top surfaces, ProFlex Dock Edging will not show a different base color, or scuff boat surfaces when nicked or scratched. ProFlexDock Edging arrives as a single 16 ft. coil in a box. Install the "P" shaped rub rail using ProFlex 1-1/4 in. Galvanized Deck Screws (sold separately) approximately 4 in. apart on top and bottom of edging.
  • Commercial grade, heavy-duty

I just built a dock at my house at the river and I needed dock edging for it. I picked up the "P" and "D" profiles to use for different sections. This "P" profile dock edging is high quality marine grade and flexible. I am using it on the 10 foot front section of the dock that will have corner bumpers. The "P" edging has a lip that goes over the edge and ties is will with the bumpers.

We are using the Proflex line of dock edging to update and remodel our dock. We have already installed some “P” and “D” profile sections. This review is to extend our comments on our initial review. We used white “P” profile previously and are now installing the black version. The black shows less wear and tear marks, but the white, when it is new, looks more professional and classy. For the long term it is a hard decision which to recommend. In advance of starting your project, unroll the edging and lay it flat on a floor. You may even need to put weights on it to get it to lay flat. This will make your installation go much smoother. I use a miter saw to cut the edging to the lengths I need. I found that for a sturdy long-term solution you should put stainless steel screws and washers every 4 inches on the top and bottom of the edging. This uses a lot of screws, so be sure you have enough. This edging holds up well against UV ray destruction. The “P” profile is by far the best choice for protecting the top horizontal edge of your dock. It wraps over the deck edge so that it protects against the boat pounding into the decking while docked in high wind and waves. It was easier to put the screws in than I anticipated. You get in a rhythm. I used two drills -- for for drilling holes and one for the Phillips driver bit. It takes about 2 hours per 16 feet of edging to complete the installation.

I tried both white and black dock edging, and both D & P profiles on a newly rebuilt dock with composite decking. For me, the black P profile is my favorite. Here’s why: in black vs. white, my previous dock had white edging. After several years, the white was harder and harder to clean, especially with dark mold. As for P vs. D profile, the P profile goes over the edge and makes a nice corner. If I was installing the edging on the center of a skirt board, D would be the way to go. To apply, we laid the edging in the sun for a few hours. After a few minutes, the coiled edging relaxes, and I was able to weigh it down with a brick at each end. Screw, nail, or nail-gun about every 8 inches. For composite decking, it has to be screwed. In my photos below, I show the 4 different edging types I tried. You’ll see that this edging is along the top of the deck skirt. I will be going back and installing edging around the bottom of the skirt. This will help with jet skis, fishing boats that sit lower to the water, and kayaks, or more likely, the heads of kayak paddlers who accidentally bang into the dock. Been there, done that. This dock edging is a great value and looks nice on my dock, while protecting my boat and guests.

Easy to use! This item arrived promptly. The edger was as described. We are using it outside another edger already in place to make a "moat" filled with mulch on the bottom layer. White rope lights on the middle layer. Clear colored glass buttons are the top layer. The first time we attempted the lighting, we did not have a second boundary and the glass buttons got into the lawn. This will keep all parts of this lighting around the lower patio part of our backyard deck contained in the space we desire!

Very durable. Had no problem cutting to length, and I like that the color/material is the same color all the way through so that if it gets scratched you won't see it (unlike other dock products that are simply pvc coated). It would have been nice if the installation hardware was included, which is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, but it wasn't a big deal to find what we needed either. Putting a screw every 4" seems like an excessive amount given the sturdy structure of the material, but I suppose it is better to overdo than to underdo it.
