Questions & Answers

How many spikes per kit?

Asked by: rocky
Not enough... buy more spikes to have ready when installing. If by chance you don't need them you can always take them back unopened. But after two years ours has started to drift between spikes, and that's after adding a few extra. Do it right the first time so you don't have to repair it later like we will!

Pat, I see no reason you can't. I used mine to underline decorative bricks to prevent the foundation stone from washing out. Worked out great. Good luck with your project.

We are attempting to create a woodland dry creek bed. there will be mulch around plants, with pebbles and large stones to make a meandering "creek" bed. the goal with this edging is to keep the mulch out of our stones. Here's are the questions...is this tall enough? is there a taller version 3"? With this application which would be the best way to turn the edging (since we have no soil)? All of this is going on top of heavy duty landscape/weed barrier. thanks for any ideas
Asked by: Heddy
The product you are looking a buying is a good product that is very versatile. The landscape /weed barrier is best set on top of the edging. You will want to buy extra spikes to secure it in place if you make a lot of turns. It will hold you mulch in place fairly well, all depends on the mulch you use and how thick you apply it of course. If you are concerned about the mulch moving or blowing away, which seldom happens, there is a product which can be sprayed on it to help hold it in place called mulch lock also at Home Depot. For any application where I have used much edging like the one you are looking at is usually sufficient to hold mulch in place, gut again if there is any foot traffic or animals on the mulch then use the mulch lock.

No-Dig 40 ft. Landscape Edging Kit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 94.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not bad, better than expected :) When I first took this out of the box, well...I wasn't too thrilled. But once I realized how super easy it was to install and then the finished look....I was so thankful that I tried this product. You do not need to lay this out in the sun so it's more flexible. I actually installed this on a cool Saturday morning. So, super easy. All you do is rake back your existing mulch, soil, etc and then lay this out the way you want it. Provided are 8 large nails (stakes) to pound into the ground to hold it in place. I do wish they would have provided an easy dozen nails vs. the 8. I used this to sculp around items and it was so flexible and easy to use that the whole process only took about 15 to 20 minutes....No really, that simple and that easy to work with. I did need about 4 more of the nails so I used gutter nails, which were perfect (basically same size and same length) We've had 2 bad storms since I've installed this product and not a single piece of mulch got past this edging. I really think you'll be pleased with this especially if you've used a plastic edging in the past....HUGE difference. Worth a try and think you'll be glad you did :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Installation and Looks Great We have two bushes in 3x3' square beds at the corners where our driveway meets the sidewalk. As they've grown, the roots established at the very surface and eventually raised the bed above the height of the pavement. Digging would be extremely difficult in the hard rocky ground full of roots, so no-dig edging is the perfect solution to keep the beds from spilling over onto the concrete. I was concerned because both beds have a 90 degree corner where the driveway meets the sidewalk, and I didn't want the edging to be too rounded leaving a gap at the corner. I was prepared to score or cut the edging to make the turn, but none of that was necessary. Just bending the edging and pinching it tightly at the top made a very sharp but ever so slightly rounded corner that looks fantastic. I initially only put a spike at each end and two at the corner to hold the bend, leaving a 3' space between the anchors on each side, however I found that this allowed the edging to sag and form small waves rather than hold a taught upright edge. I ended up adding two more spikes along each 3' edge, ultimately putting a spike every third hole. Perhaps this is a bit excessive, but it looks great and will definitely hold without bowing out in the middle. The spikes are incredibly strong. I ended up hammering all of them into the rocky ground with a 5 lb. mallet without a single one bending or breaking. Decided to buy more of the same since there are not nearly enough included, and I thought I could pick them up at my local store. The ones sold in my store are a different brand, but look identical with the same spiral shape and 8" length. There is a 16-pack online for the same price, or a 4-pack for less than half as much. It is free to pick up an online order at the local store, and easy to return what you don't need, so I would definitely order plenty of the cheaper spikes online to avoid paying twice as much for them in store. I am very pleased with the price and appearance of this edging, as well as the ease of installation. If you spend a little more for additional spikes and don't cut corners when prepping a wide flat path for the edging, it really does look just as good or better than any other landscape edging product, only less expensive and easier to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy set up My wife took this out and let it heat up in the sun making it easier to move in to the desired shape she wanted. She then took the 12 nylon spike styled nails and proceeded to push the into the moist ground. The spikes are placed in to holes in a leaf design that are every 3'' apart. There are 2 packs of 6 each. Would have liked more. The edge of the border is smooth and level making a designer style for the outdoors yard improvement.. I can see using this in more of our yard improvements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up. Very flexible. Made of Heavy duty plastic. Used it to edged around a tree to hold mulch. Works great if you are planning to use it as a circle purchase more spikes to hold down the plastic. I purchased gutter nails for only .29 cents a piece and it works just great. I used the 'ship to store ' when ordering. The product got to the store sooner than expected. The package was in excellent condition. Walked in showed my id and order number , left - no problem

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An okay edging solution Reason why I wanted edging a) contain mulch that I would be putting in and b0 for making the area look better. Few Pros: Easy and quick to install. No digging needed. Cons: 1) Height is on a short side. I would have like about 3 inch or so. This thing is around 1-1/2 inch. So if you put some mulch, it might not be able to hold it all. 2) Number of ground stakes. For a 40 feet of edging, just 12 are included. I have don't have a regular (rectangular) shape so more stakes would have been helpful. I would have thought around 20 would be good. Also not sure with just 12 stakes how good it will hold on to the ground and for how long. 3) The plastic material is on a hard side. I would have loved if it would have been on a bit softer side. Not sure how it will hold up in upstate NY extreme weather. Overall; its an okay product. If you want a quick and inexpensive way then it is okay to go with.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from useless I was very happy to receive this edging kit because I want to build a circular wall for my rose bush to contain the mulch. When I looked at this product online, the kit seems to a super easy solution to what I need to do. Instead of building a brick wall, which involves digging up dirt and putting cement down, what you need to do with this kit is to hammer the spikes down to hold the edge in place. Yet the edge is simply way too low. It is too low to contain even a thin layer of mulch and is shorter than the grass next to it. It does not look good up close and it looks like a forgotten hose lying on my lawn from distance. If only they made the edge taller it would be a great idea instead of an useless product.
