A:Â Usually when new they have some moisture in them so in my opinion you should wait until fully dry probably next spring since we are entering the cold weather months. I used deck stain rather than paint.

I purchased 4 bundles of 16 to do the handrail on my deck.. I knew I would have a few extra in case I had any bad ones.. I did have 2 that I could not use, but you always find a couple.. Most were fairly straight and and even the ones with a small bow you could still use.. I always run my spindles close together, it gives the appearance of quality. The wider you go the cheaper and more unprofessional your project will look.
