Questions & Answers

Do you remove the white film from both sides? The one side with the printing on it seems impossible to remove. One side comes off really easy and the other side doesn't seem too.

Answer This Question

Hello, For Protecto Wrap BT25XL, you should remove only the release liner side and leave the white film facing outward. The white side with the printing on it is the polyethylene backing/facing of the tape, not a second release film. That's why it seems almost impossible to peel off. The easy-to-remove side is the release paper/liner that protects the adhesive before installation. The product is designed to be installed with the white printed surface remaining in place. Peel off the release paper. Center the tape over the area. Firmly roll the tape into place.

Are you supposed to remove the white backing before installing a window or a door? I have seen no where in the directions to do this.

    Answer This Question

Hello, yes, for a self-adhering membrane like the 6 in. x 50 ft. Window and Door Tape, the white backing is designed to be removed to expose the adhesive layer. This allows the tape to create a permanent waterproofing air/vapor seal around doors and windows. The term "self-adhering" implies that the adhesive is protected by a removable backing until application.

When removed is surface; paint damaged?
      ByJul 21, 2026
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hello, this product features an aggressive rubberized adhesive designed for a permanent, watertight seal. While it is very sticky and may require a scraper for removal, the sources do not explicitly state whether paint will be damaged upon removal. Given the strong adhesive nature of the tape, it is possible that removing it from a painted surface could damage the paint, especially if the paint is old, not properly cured, or not well-adhered to the substrate. For best results, it is always recommended to test the product in an inconspicuous area first if you are concerned about potential paint damage upon removal.

Will this tape stick to Tyvek house wrap?
        ByJul 13, 2026
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Hello, yes, generally speaking this item will stick to Tyvek house wrapping. However, we recommend that you perform an adhesion test first. BT25XL will generally adhere well to clean, dry Tyvek housewrap. Surface contamination, dust, moisture, cold temperatures, or aged/weathered Tyvek can reduce adhesion. If adhesion is marginal, you would first want to use a primer. Use firm pressure with a J-roller or laminate roller is recommended to achieve full bond strength.

Could I use this tape in place of Georgia Pacific's Flex Tape on ForceField sheathing?
                ByJul 24, 2025
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

No, it is not recommended. It's best to stick with the manufacturer-recommended tape. Georgia Pacific specifically advises using Flex Tape with ForceField sheathing to ensure proper performance and warranty compliance. Substituting another tape may affect adhesion, weather resistance, or warranty coverage.

                  Don’t buy this
I bought it, cleaned the surface, rolled it on with a roller, 3 days later it’s almost 100% peeled off. Not a good product.

We use this product on window installations. 1 folded into window opening and 1 over nailing flange after securing window for waterproof seal.

It’s easier using in cooler weather. Very sticky to begin with. But it sticks great on good cleaned wood.

Work freak on new window insulation. The paper on the back should be plastic because it constantly tears off small pieces.

It's pretty sticky and slightly stretchy. Works well for flashing.
