My Empress Wu Hosta receives morning sun, then it's shaded beginning around noon. It is absolutely gorgeous and thriving splendidly.

My son wants to put all my perrenials [hostas, tiger lillies, day lillies] in pots. Can they survive that way?
Asked by: Jeanne
Depends on where you live. How rough are your winters, and do you have a greenhouse of any type to house them over the winter? I live in the NC mountains and winters get down to 8 degrees sometimes. I put my pots in my plastic greenhouse and they survive brilliantly. These hostas are gorgeous and extremely hardy. Treat them well and they will thrive and flourish.

Will the empress wu grow in doors?

Asked by: CE
Yes, it make sure it gets indirect sunlight. This is a very hardy plant and if you treat it well it will thrive and flourish.

These were big plants when someone put them in the box, long leaves-probably healthy. However they dropped them in a long box with no padding, no packaging, nothing wrapped around those tender leaves. When I tried to get them out of the box all the leaves broke off. I planted them and I am waiting for them to recover from the abuse. Hostas are sturdy plants so they will probably look fine by-next year. A reputable nursery like ProPlants should know better than to try this kind of cheap and sloppy shipping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous Empress Wu Hosta I'm so pleased at the absolutely stunning Emoress Wu Hosta. The three gallon pot arrived in a special box made especially for the care and safety of transporting live plants. The large pot itself was wrapped to prevent any soil from escaping. The soil is a very rich, dark, high quality potting mix and was still moist when it reached my house. The roots of the Empress Wu are healthy and abundant, filling up the entire pot. I'm happy with its strong extensive root system and beautiful green leaves. The Empress Wu leaves are larger and stand up stronger than other hostas.. I tried to capture the gorgeous green color on camera, but it's more beautiful in person. I love it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Smaller plant than expected The first plant that was shipped was a 0.65 gallon size when I had irdered the 3 gallon size. When the order was reshipped, the pot size was correct however the plant itself was very small especially since I had paid $44.95 for it. This plant did not meet my expectations.

But the roots were in very good condition. I bought two plants, and planted both last Fall. This spring they came out nice and strong. So beautiful. Now they have many seeds on both of them, and I am planning on preparing these seeds for planting next year.
