Questions & Answers

Will there be any big flowers with the plant when ordering it now?

I found that many hydrangea sold in nurseries or supermarkets are already with many big blooms. So wonder if I will receive just branches or with many flowers if I order now in April?
Asked by: Beginner
I received just leafy branches. (1 gal is quite small) I've been watching it over the last month or so and I don't expect it will bloom until next season.

Do I need to prepare the soil before planting?

Asked by: Dv
Yes, I prefer to add 1 c. vermiculite to the loose soil mixed with Timberland garden soil and a couple hands full of peat moss. Good Luck.

I received five hydrangeas about a month and a half ago, only one of which had a bloom. Since then that one has had several blooms but none of the others have bloomed. They are I full sun and look healthy but no buds at all. Will they bloom next year?
Asked by: Cynicalsue
I purchased a little lime hydrangea in the one gallon container in 2017. Although the plant was very healthy, it did not bloom at all in its first year. The following year, the plant had a few blooms but looked nothing like the picture on the Home Depot website. This year the hydrangea has come into its own. It is an absolute beast in the landscape. It’s at least five feet tall with dozens of huge blooms. It’s now mid-September and it’s still producing new stalks and beautiful white flowers. I think it’s a terrific plant. You just need to give it time, lots of sun and a little Rose Tone in the spring.
