It is the 1st week in September should I wait til next year to buy & plant one?

Asked by: Erica
Fall is a great time to plant shrubs. Most sellers of plants will ship them to you when they are ready to be planted. I just planted mine a week ago and it's doing fine. It's unprotected in a front yard. Should weather any frost just fine since the seller says it comes back even after harsh winters. You can also plant in early spring but if you plant in fall it gives the plant a little more time to get the roots going into the soil you plant it in. Hope this helps.

There are several varieties of the "Burning Bush", but this particular one - "Fire Ball" - is a more compact version of the plant, which is perfect for our yard. It shouldn't get any larger than 5 to 7 feet tall, and about the same width, which means very little maintenance required. And while Burning Bush it is not deer proof, it is deer resistant - always a consideration in our neighborhood. The plant arrived in excellent condition, ready to plant. Instructions suggest well drained soil and moderate water, so it will fit right in with our other plantings. Fire Ball can planted in zones 4 to 8, which means just about anywhere in the USA. More sunshine will result in brighter red foliage in the fall, and the plant can tolerate - and may even benefit from some shade the further south you live.

The paperwork says that it's "sleeping" because you have it in "hibernation" from Nov though some other month, however, I got it right at the beginning of November, it most assuredly looked dead-it didn't even have soil in the pot, just roots. I have had it in my home since purchase...added soil, it's in the sun, water, food, etc., and it looks exactly the same. We shall see

My new plant arrived 2 days ago from Proven Winners grower in southeast Michigan. The packaging was superb in protecting the plant during its journey here. While I have already transplanted my "Fireball Burning Bush Shrub into a larger pot in my greenhouse, the plant told me "by way of an enclosed letter with it" that right now is NOT the best time to judge its appearance. This is simply because my healthy new plant grew up where the weather is getting colder. Hence my plant stated that she is in the process of going dormant and it's perfectly normal for her to lose her leaves in the Fall anyway. And then she told me..."Just you wait until Spring - new season means new leaves!" So..while my plant looks just fine to me now...I will happily anticipate her new growth as Spring arrives...which in South Carolina is not far off. Thank you to the Proven winners grower for both this plant and the informative letter that was enclosed.

I brought this bush close to two years ago and it remained green (not orange or red ). without the color it is just a mediocre bush. Finally, in late 10/2018, somewhat orange, but then all of the leaves fell off. Not recommended.

I unpacked it carefully and set it outdoors for the better part of a day and overnight in order for it to acclimate. The next day I planted it with great care and for several days kept it moist, thinking this would help keep it from going into shock. The weather here in my area has been unusually warm for November, so I am sure it has gotten off to a good start. It has begun going dormant and I am looking forward to next Spring when it will spring back to life.

I was impressed with the condition of the plant upon receipt! I'm used to ordering plants online that arrive shriveled, half dead and ill packaged. Most don't make it more than a few weeks. Returning is a pain! Not this shipment! The plant was well packed. Root ball was covered with plastic - ball was still moist to the touch. The cardboard container provided excellent protection - no bent or folded branches. I planted it immediately upon receipt in an area that receives full sun. I provided a deep prepared hole with top soil, moss and then mulch for protection. Watered it well. Checking it daily, it is doing great. Healthy and green! Can't wait to see it in a year! We are planning on purchasing additional plants for a grouping of 5.
