Pulsar 5,250/4,250-Watt Dual Fuel Gasoline/Propane Powered Recoil Start Portable Generator 224 cc CARB Compliant is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 67.

I ordered the pulsar for backup power during planned shutdowns in California. Product arrived in good condition, hooked up battery, filled it with oil, and put fresh gasoline in the tank. Used the electric start and it started up immediately. The next day we had the planned shutdown and it started up just fine. It ran for about 1 hour then stopped. I couldn't get it to start again. While it was running it was very loud.Louder than my very old Coleman 4000 watt generator. The exhaust was was very obnoxious and its supposed to be a CARB compliant generator. Don't know what caused it to stop. when I drained the oil and gas in preparations to return the defective generator to Home Depot the oil was very black...don't think this is normal. Anyway I was disappointed but Home Depot was great at having me return unit for full refund.

Generator delivered ahead of time in good condition. 3 in 1 meter can measure voltage (220v only), frequency and run time. Battery charge seemed adequate. Started generator on propane on first try. 3 in 1 meter reads no load frequency 62.4 Hz, voltage reads 245v and running time meter is logging run time. Motor is running smoothly. Applied 2100 watt load at the 120v outlets. 3 in 1 meter reads frequency 61.2 Hz, voltage reads 244v and battery charge voltage after 15 minutes of run time is 14.95v on my multimeter. Voltage at the 120v outlet reads 121v on my multimeter. Removing load and reapplying load seems to have little effect on the motor, voltage and frequency. All outlets have circuit brakers but do not have on/off switches. This was a disappointment. To turn off load at the generator you must remove power cord from the outlet, turn off the generator or use a distribution box of some sort with switches to turn off power. At this time I have not tried to run generator on gasoline. I will do that if there is a power outage in my area. But for now, I will use propane for testing. My preferred purchase was the Pulsar PG7750B which was listed as a special buy at $742.23 which had the necessary power for my needs. After ordering this unit I checked my order with Home Depot and found that my order after 6 days had been canceled. The reason was it was not Carb. Compliant for California, an acceptable reason for canceling, but would have liked to have been notified. The next day I began my search for another qualified generator. I noticed the PG7750B the one I ordered 6 days before, was now listed at a higher price, $988.60, $246.37 higher in price. While the PG12000B at a higher output was $899.00, however a day later the PG12000B was raised in price to $999.00. What gives with Home Depot. The power companies in California are turning off power in communities during high winds to reduce fires from power line problems, and I think Home Depot and other generator suppliers are taking advantage of the higher demand on generators that are used during power outages. If this is the case, I would like to see suppliers part of the solution and keep prices near what they were rather than increasing prices so much when home owners are just trying to keep their food from spoiling and their homes warm.

I called a local small engine guy and he told me that the sensor was stuck and to unhook it and the generator should crank and run fine. After getting the unit warm he advised to hook the low oil sensor back up and that should fix my problem. I did as he said and sure enough the problem was solved.

This Pulsar came just in time to run our whole house during a two-day power loss, including our well which is 700 ft deep and our outdoor wood furnace and in house blowers(3), lights, refrigerator, 2 freezers! I would be more pleased if the components were ALL made in America or Canada! This Generator did an excellent job on very little fuel--great purchase--great value!
