Junior tender battery trickle charger

Ii talked to someone at the manufacturer who recommended the Viking 4 AMP charger. It comes with a lead with a connector end, and a pair of two ring connector ends, and a pair of clamps. I connected the ring end connector to the battery and leave it on there, Charging is then as simple as plugging in. The Viking 4 AMP is a great little smart charger: AGM, GEL, DEEP CYCLE and STANDARD. Plug it in, leave it.. it will top off your battery nicely and then turn itself off. Great tip, mahalo. Bought it online from HF for 38 bucks and change delivered. The new chargers are so much better. Just plug it in when you're running the generator to stay topped up.

I can not see why not. The car and the generator batteries are both 12V so it would be no different than jump starting another car with regular jumper cables.

Is the generator wound with a floating ground?

Asked by MC April 23, 2021

Answers

You can probably get the manual online. My copy of the manual has the schematic in it and it shows that the ground and the nertral are conected together inside the generator. That is why they want people to use a ground rod. If you tie it into your circuit breaker box you will probably not need a ground rod since it is get earth ground from the ground inside the box. Code may require you to have a ground rod as well though. So check the code. Isolating the case of the generator from the neutral and ground can be very dangerous if something goee wrong inside the generator and the power gets to the case. I hope this helps, I love this generator..

NOT A NEW GEN
I believe the product was repackaged as "NEW". It had oil in the machine and you can smell gasoline in the tank. I never put any fuel or hooked it up to propane. My first review was rejected so I rewrote it to not include shipping. I do not believe it was completely a shipping issue due it having oil in the engine and smell of gasoline coming from the tank. I am Very disappointed more than one way. Yes, I have had generators before that I've purchased from Home Depot. I had never had a problem with quality until now. I rate the craftsmanship, very very poor. A hose was loose in the box as well which is secondary reason I will be returning it. Hopeful, this will satisfy the guidelines set forth by my review which wasn't the first two times. Shipping being cited at reason for review rejections. A new generator shouldn't have oil in the engine and nor should the smell of gasoline be coming from the tank. I took photos of it upon arrival and called the closest store. I want a new product, not something "USED". I never ever had a problem with a product until now. I have shopped for over 12 years or so and I can't complain, considering how many items I've purchased with no problems such as dryer, dishwasher, pressure washer, previous two generators (I wish I hadn't sold but got into a pinch).

I bought this generator when it was on sale at Home Depot online. I saved over $400 and it works beautifully as a whole home generator. I am able to power 8 circuits which include my fridge, and heater. We can run all of the lights and TVs and internet without any bogging down. It can all be run on propane power which is nice because of gasoline storage/keeping. I wish it would run longer than 4 hours off of the propane, but I keep 14 gallons of gas on hand with Stabil in it as well. This paired with a 12000 watt transfer switch does the trick and sure beats paying $6000+ for a standby generator.

Ordering online and picking up at the store was easy. The problem is when you get the huge thing home and open the box to find out it was cracked where the electrical outlets connect to the main frame. The panel is barely hanging on by the wire connections. The other issue is the main suport beam at the base is bent also. Noticable enough where the paint flakes off and the motor now rests on the frame. I will call pulsar when they are open to see how this can be resolved.

Very Poor Quality control. This generator arrived defective with the motor mounted incorrectly. The wrong size motor mount was used during assembly (left side in picture). This resulted in the generator being unusable. The engine was mounted and shipped crooked in the frame. Sadly I was not able to use it and had to return.

No quality control
I ordered the Pulsar PG12000B, 12,000 watt generator. It showed up 10 days later. What I initially thought was damage from shipping turned out to be a generator that had it's engine mounted crooked! I'm not sure how a factory could produce this generator and let it out the door with one side of the engine mounted incorrectly on the frame. I can not imagine this generator being of any quality. Home Depot is arranging for shipping back, but I have to continue to wait for a product refund, until the return shipping company can schedule and pickup . Very disappointed. You may want to look at another brand of generator.

Weak metal
I bought this earlier this year and finally got around to putting it together. It started with a couple pulls. I shut it off and looked around for any leaks or anything. Then I found a bend in one of the supports. Cheap metal Is what it looks like to me. Haven't put a load on it yet. Will update once I run a load through it!

Very pleased, but wish it had a couple of important features. I've run it three times and I'm very pleased so far. I run it off propane and it fires right up. I'm able to power my whole house (>3000 sqft, 2xHVAC) without issue. I added wattage meters (above fuel selector) and a battery trickle-charging port (above battery). I would gladly have paid a bit more for those necessities.

Because of power outage all around us a while back, I decided to see about getting a generator. All stores in the area were (OUT OF STOCK) Ordered online. Came just a few days later. Hooked up propane to it with regulator/hose (included with generator). Have wired small breaker and outlets for refrigerator and deep freeze. Started the generator; plugged in refrigerator and deep freeze. Ran for about 45 minutes without a hiccup. Could not even tell the motor had a load on it. Will be adding area for permanent usage(like a small shed to sit in). This is temporary setup right now.

This Pulsar HD6580B portable generator is designed primarily for emergency power during outages, something that’s necessary here in central Florida. Going through an extended power outage following a hurricane without any backup generator is not something you’ll want to experience. It’s also portable enough to power 110 VAC power tools at job sites. I was unable to get the weight spec from the manufacturer, but it’s NOT a lightweight. It is available exclusively through Home Depot. It’s compact sized but has enough capacity to operate all the 110 VAC devices in most homes if properly connected to a circuit breaker box through a power transfer switch. You can use the 120 volt outlets and extension cords if you wish. Keep in mind that the maximum 6580 peak watts and 5500 running output power can only be achieved using gasoline. If you connect it to a liquid propane tank expect a maximum power output of 5,922 peak watts and 4,950 running watts. The tradeoff is longer and cleaner operation using LPG. It has a 5.2 gallon gasoline fuel tank that gives you up to 11.5-hours of continuous operation at half load. It is well equipped with nearly every conceivable accessary and warning device like a fuel shutoff valve, fuel drains, a 3 in 1 digital meter, low oil indicator, fuel level gauge, ground connection and low oil shutdown. It even has a 12 VDC trickle output to charge a battery even though it has a recoil starter (there is no electric starter). It is supplied with fold-down handles, never-flat wheels, metal feet, all hardware, 1 quart of oil, a funnel and a propane adapter hose. On the control panel here are four 120-volt 20 amp AC outlets, one 220-volt 30 amp NEMA twist-lock female outlet, and one 120 VAC 30 amp female RV outlet. The oil filler spout is typically in a difficult location. Everything is nicely labeled and easy to read, however the choke is labeled “Open and Closed” instead of “Choke and Running,” which can be confusing. As for operation, it easily started with two pulls of the starter cord and runs surprisingly quiet. As a matter of fact, it’s quieter than your average 2 HP lawn mower! I wanted to comment on a few of the current reviews that are posted on the Home Depot website supposedly about this generator. First, it DOES NOT have a battery or starter motor. It has a recoil manual pull starter. Second, I am not deaf, I’ve owned three other generators and live in central Florida so I’m painfully aware of all the local noisy generators in the area. This one is MUCH quieter than any other generator I’ve heard. In addition, a few reviews clearly state that the review was for a completely different model than this one. My review is accurate. It is a great value and I highly recommend this product, something I rarely state in my reviews.

Easy to assemble and set up for operation. All of the equipment with the exception of propane or gasoline is provided. I am in the process of putting in a subpanel with the circuits we need when we lose power possibly. If this is not done then you must open your main breaker and other breakers that may overload the generator. As I expected the KW outage of the generator is lower on propane 5500KW on gas and 4950 on propane so beware .Also there is a yellow warning sheet that is provided for shifting from one fuel source to the other I would strongly recommend that this warning sign be close to the generator when operating. I would recommend this generator for most single family homes especially here in Florida.
