Exquisite hardwood grains run along the length of this PureBond Maple Plywood Project Panel, featuring rotary-cut veneers from domestically grown, sustainably harvested trees that exhibit the warmth and timeless quality of natural timber. The 7-ply panel is comprised of 100% wood (no MDF or particleboard), boasting a yellow poplar core substrate layered in cross-band formation to fortify its flatness and strength. The soy-based PureBond technology is formaldehyde-free, producing a water-resistant, nontoxic decorative plywood panel that is not prone to warp like solid wood and will not emit harmful fumes like UF-constructed sheets. A cost-competitive alternative to composite panels that may degrade interior air quality over time, this hardwood plywood from Columbia Forest Products is a superb choice for DIYers and professional tradesmen looking for stellar results on their next woodworking project.
  • 7-Ply hardwood plywood panel is assembled with smooth, patch-free decorative maple veneers
  • PureBond hardwood plywood is an environmentally friendly, cost-competitive alternative to panels manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which may degrade air quality over time
  • Contains 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive that does not emit toxic air contaminants
  • Decorative top and bottom veneers, measuring approximately 1/42 in. thick, exhibit the beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood and are suitable for painting or staining
  • Water-resistant composition has a higher moisture tolerance than UF panels and is less likely to warp than solid wood
  • Allow panel to acclimate to interior climate conditions for several days before customizing - for interior applications only
  • For best cutting results, use an 80-tooth (or greater) table saw blade intended for sheet goods or a carbide-tipped circular saw plywood blade

Wanting to make a plywood floor in a bathroom I'm remodeling. Would this be a good product to use if i seal it with pol

Asked by: Wes
Gracious....I've used tile, carpet and vinyl but never poly coated plywood....I'm not sure on this one....I'm sure you could do it alright but not sure about the longevity of the finished product in a moist environment.

Is there veneer on both sides?

I need a stainable surface on both faces.
Asked by: Scotty
The sheet I bought was C grade on the second side. You could not stain it unless you are OK will lots of plugs..

can you use for outdoor use?

Asked by: marc
I bought some of this 5 years ago and left a 2 ft piece outside. It warped, darkened and "rotted" after 1 year, then it started to delaminate about a year later. Interestingly, I also left out a circular piece of baltic birch and though it's darkened and the top layer has cracked, the baltic birch is still pretty flat. If I had to use a "premium plywood" for outdoor use, I'd stick with baltic birch with regularly applied outdoor finish (w/ UV protection).

Does this wood need to be sealed?

Asked by: Eric
Likely, yes, all wood needs to be 'finished' or sealed with something before it is placed in use. Otherwise it'll eventually dry out and crack. IMO

3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. Maple Plywood is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 140.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice plywood While I work with many materials, plywood is especially satisfying because it is both strong, easy to work with and takes on a good finish. Because it uses a soy based glue, I don't have to worry about formaldehyde out-gassing. This plywood has 5 plies, not counting the veneer on both sides. The surfaces were free of blemishes and the edges only showed a single small void. Some plywood sheets one quarter the size have several voids showing. Running a straight edge across the sheet showed it was very smooth and the only curvature I saw was due to flexing under its own weight- and for a 3/4 inch thick piece the flex is very small.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Among Birch, Oak, and Cherry ... If you're going to paint, you'd use birch or poplar ply; when you buy maple you plan to stain or just lacquer. The sheet I got was rated "C-3". So, when I compare the quality of the faces among birch, red oak, cherry, and maple ... having gotten them all ... I was amazed, and disappointed, at how inferior the "C' surface of the maple sheet was compared to the others. Definitely a 'bury it'. For non-critical apps this will suffice. The product has a 5-ply core and veneers that can't be any thicker than 0.015". Ten years ago, this 3/4" sheet would have been an 11-ply and have a much thicker veneer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Delaminated This is really a sad case. The veneers are great. There are literally no voids. It was exactly what I needed. 5 hours into this project the laminate separated. Apparently there was no glue in a large portion of the sheet. I have flushed $50 and 5 hours of labor. I have photos of the separation and the SKU.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from If you are making anything other than workshop stuff, do not buy. This plywood is real bad. This ... If you are making anything other than workshop stuff, do not buy. This plywood is real bad. This stuff is not high quality. Once I got it home and started cutting it up and assembling the pieces I started to notice voids and bulges in the plys. The tearout is ridiculous. I've had to insert new wood into the edges in some areas just to fill voids. I am using this to make a workbench so it was not a total loss. For anything else, stay away.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too many voids, thin outer veneers The outside veneers are so thin that you have to be extremly cautious when sanding them or cutting. There were so many voids inside the plys that I decided is not worth me purchasing these sheets ever again. I wanted this product mostly because it was formeldehyde free and it looked good but It's junk. I would gladly pay more for thos product if they could get it right.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from SEMI NICE GRAIN PATTERN BUT NOT AS EXPECTED The lighter weight, all-wood veneer construction of this maple plywood is ideal for woodworkers, hobbyists, etc. who prefer an all natural wood plywood over composite panel products like particleboard and MDF.This plywood sheet has a hardwood face veneer on both sides but neither side it suitable for finish work like cabinets, bookcase, etc. One side of this 4' X 8' sheet has minor imperfections in the maple grain but still nice for projects that only one side of plywood is visible. The other side is a low grade that has major imperfections including areas that look like some kind of wood putty was used to fill in holes left in manufacturing process. I was planning on making a display case but do not think it will look any good once stained with imperfections. I am sure I will find some use sooner or later.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A decent plywood at this price point. Anybody who thinks that they're getting 9 or 13 ply stain ... A decent plywood at this price point. Anybody who thinks that they're getting 9 or 13 ply stain grade cabinet quality plywood for this price is going to be sorely disappointed. I use this plywood for paint grade projects only and yes you do have to "feel" the sheets before loading up and heading to the register as some sheets do have laminating issues and also be aware that there will also be voids between the plies as others have mentioned. Still a decent alternative to using engineered sheet goods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice plywood for home projects This is a very nice plywood for home cabinet and shelving projects. It is important for buyers to read the grading chart to make sure the appearance of the face veneers meets their needs. I have used this plywood in several projects that, when finished, were (a) sealed with a clear sealer, (b) were stained and then sealed, and (c) were painted. This plywood is affordable which makes it perfect for home type projects. It is good for projects where one or both sides of the plywood will show like in shelves, cabinet doors, etc. even though the face of the plywood has a nicer appearance than the back. A big advantage to this plywood is the fact that it will not out-gas harmful fumes because it is formaldehyde free. Do It Yourselfers using high grade plywood for the first time need to research the best way to cut plywood to achieve the smoothest chip free cuts. It's a simple process if a few simple rules are followed.
